How do I clean badly clogged heads on my Epson Printer ?
At some time or other the print heads on your Epson printer will clog up. This could be due to ink hardening through infrequent use or perhaps a bad batch of ink cartridge, more than likely it will be the former. There is a standard head cleaning procedure for cleaning the print heads on your Epson printer that can be found through your properties option when you go into your printer utility.
In the properties section you will find the āmaintenanceā section, click on this tab and it will give you access you the head cleaning. The first step is to check the performance of the various individual ink cartridges; click on āNozzle Checkā to print out a graph that will indicate if the nozzles are clogged. The next step is to run the āhead cleaningā operation and this can take several minutes. Immediately afterwards, run another āNozzle Checkā to see if there is an improvement in the quality. This procedure may have to be repeated up to 5 or 6 times to clear a stubborn blockage.
This will inevitably mean the use of a lot of printer ink and you will need to have a spare set of ink cartridges in case it runs out mid-cleaning. This is a bit of a bugbear with people as you can go through a full set of ink cartridges on head cleaning alone. Be sure to run out a āNozzle Checkā after each head cleaning procedure to see if there is any improvement in quality. If after 5 or 6 attempts to clean the heads using this method there is little or no difference, there is another way to try and overcome the problem.
Close the maintenance tab and go back to printing a document. So when you go file print go to the properties again and this time select the option āBest Photoā. This will use more ink than the normal printing but it will ālayerā the ink colour by colour onto the page. You should find that your document (try on a colour photo if possible), prints perfectly. The next step then is to go back into maintenance and print out another āNozzle Checkā; it may surprise you to discover that the print out is fine with no clogged nozzles! Inkjet cartridges that have been dormant in the printer for long spells of time without use may āhardenā and prevent easy flow of ink. Ink and toner is different with regard to liquid ink and toner powder and you should not experience these issues in a laser toner printer.

Why does my Kodak printer give the error message ink cartridge not recognized. Please replace cartridge?
Sometimes when using compatible Kodak ink cartridge you may get an error message that tells you the printer is refusing to recognize the cartridges. This may be an issue with the printer reading the ink cartridges as either empty or unrecognizable.
First of all check you have the correct ink cartridges installed. It has been know for people to try to install a Kodak 10 cartridge into a printer that requires a Kodak 30 cartridge. If the cartridges are the correct type then In the first instance you can try removing the USB cable, this is the cable that connects the printer to the computer. Make sure you leave the power switched on when you do this. Open the printer cover and remove the ink cartridges if you have installed.
Secondly, Close the cover again and wait for the message to appear āinsertā or āreplaceā ink cartridges.
Next, disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer and wait for a couple of minutes. Reconnect the power cable; you may have to switch the printer on (press power switch) if it does not come on automatically. Open the printer cover and reinsert the ink cartridges. Close the printer cover and if prompted print a calibration page. Re-connect the USB lead and try to print a document from the computer.
If you have a problem where both ink cartridges are not working then it would be a good idea to carry out a test to see if both cartridges are causing the problem or just one. You should remove the black first and if you have it install the black ink cartridge you previously removed. If the old black and the new colour work then the problem is not with the colour cartridge but with the black. You can use this process of elimination to help see if one or both cartridges are giving the problem.

My printer is saying the ink cartridge is EMPTY even though I just installed it
Following the installation of a replacement ink cartridge the printer may sometimes give the message that the cartridge is empty. This can be common with a remanufactured or compatible ink cartridges. The reason for this is that the manufacturers of the original cartridges do not make is simple for 3rd party manufacturers to reset the levels. The cartridge will be filled to the appropriate level so you can CLICK OK to any error message displayed and continue printing. It may be possible to reset the volume levels on a certain brands of printers and it is best to search how to do this in Google ā āhow to reset ink levels or counterā.
9 times out of 10 if you click OK and ignore the warning and carry on printing the inkjet cartridge or toner ink will perform as normal. In the unlikely event that it wonāt print once you OK the error message, there are other options you can try. Try reinstalling the ink cartridge again (making sure that the computer and the printer are both actually switched on). Remove the cartridge and put it back in again then close the printer cover, this should display the printer control panel. If this option doesnāt show up then you will have to go to Printer Utilities and find the command āinstall/change ink cartridgeā. You then follow the steps as prompted and this will hopefully zero the counter on the cartridge.
However, you can rest assured that the toner and ink cartridges you receive from us are filled to capacity and will print the same number of pages or in excess of the original manufacturers ink cartridges.
Disabling the Canon Printer Ink Monitor
It is also possible for the Canon printer to give problems with the ink volume levels when you have installed compatible Canon ink cartridges. You may have to disable to ink monitor to proceed with printing. To begin with, click on the Start button > Settings > Control Panel > Printers (then right click on the printer model) > Printer Preferences > Maintenance Tab > View Printer Status > Option.
In your options menu click on the āenable statusā monitor, the check tick will be removed and the ink cartridge monitor will be disabled. A pop up message may appear and the printer may start to flash an orange light but just click OK to proceed. If there is no OK to click then just hold down the feed button. If this will not work for you donāt worry, just remove the cartridges and reinsert in to the printer and try to print a document. If the message is telling you the ink cartridges are empty then just hold down the cancel button (this is the button with the diamond shape inside a circle) for a full 5 seconds. You may have to try this more than once to disable the ink cartridge monitor.
