Compatible HP970XL/971XL for half the cost of the original brand ink!
The latest HP970XL/HP971XL ink cartridges are now available as compatible inks for half the cost of the original brand. These super sized HP ink cartridges are high capacity inks with the HP970XL black printing 9200 pages @ 5% coverage and the colours HP971XL cyan, magenta and yellow printing 6600 pages each at the same 5% coverage. This represents big savings for the user both at home and in the office.
These inks are designed to work with the following HP printers: HP Officejet Pro X451dn, HP Officejet Pro X451dw, HP Officejet Pro X476dn, HP Officejet Pro X476dw, HP Officejet Pro X551dw and HP Officejet Pro X551dw. These MFP inkjet printers (multifunction peripheral to me and you) were manufactured with the intention of competing with the laser toner printers. In terms of size, these inkjet printers aren’t that much smaller than the laser printer (the physical size of the HP 970XL ink cartridge is certainly more in keeping with that of a laser toner).
When we examine further the Officejet Pro X476dw we see that this dark grey printer has a top sheet feeder accepting 50 pages while the main feeder accepts 500 pages. Curiously on this model the paper ejects to the left of the printer so it will be necessary to leave some clearance space on this side of printer. This is a fast printer with print speeds of up to 55 pages per minute in black and white. It is also possible to adjust the document profile prior to printing if you would like to boost the print quality. Overall there is very positive from each of the printers above. The sheer volume of print puts the HP 970XL ink cartridge in a class of its won with 9200 page print output. No other inkjet printer can compete with this page output and with the ink cartridges available as compatibles for half the cost of the original brand its a no brainer to make the switch.

My printer model is not listed on the cartridge boxes I have received; will the cartridge work in my printer?
Very often when you buy compatible ink cartridges (and occasionally original brand ink) the model of the printer does not appear on the packaging of the box. Alarm bells immediately start to ring and you can become wary about opening the cartridge box. Even a quick call to the supplier might not allay your fears but the simple truth is that there is so many printer models added to the list of ink cartridges sold by all the major manufacturers that itâs virtually impossible to list every printer on the box! A good example of this would be the HP364 ink cartridges. HP was certainly thinking a head when they first developed these cartridges, as there are over 60 printers that will use these same cartridges.
A good way to check for yourself is to read the ink cartridge code from the existing cartridge in your printer. If it matches the code on the box then you know you have the correct cartridge. If there are no ink cartridges in the printer then Google your printer model and search for the cartridges it uses â this will give you the code you can check off against the code on the box you have received. If you have received the incorrect cartridges, return them to your supplier and request the correct ones.
I have ordered the correct cartridges but my print quality is poor.
There may be several reasons why the quality of print outs are not as good as you would expect. First of all remove the ink cartridges and check if the seal has been removed form the cartridge. Obvious as it sounds it is still worth checking. Re-install the cartridges and check to see if itâs likely that only one of the cartridges is giving the problem. Every printer has a built-in ânozzle checkâ; this can be accessed in the maintenance section of the printer utility. Perform a nozzle check to see if the print out matches the correct on screen chart. If you run this procedure 2 or 3 times (by the way this will use up ink) this may clear any blockage thatâs causing the poor print quality. The nozzle clean will clean all the print heads and use ink from each colour ink cartridge. If this doesnât make a difference to the overall quality of the print out, cease the cleaning operation, as itâs likely to be a faulty cartridge. Replace this and this should eliminate the problem.

I am getting the message as Incompatible Older Generation Cartridge Installed
Some recently manufactured HP printers are throwing up some issues with their ink cartridges. After the replacement ink cartridge (original brand or remanufactured) has been installed, an error message appears on the product control panel and the printer will not print. The message reads that an older generation cartridge has been installed. The message displayed on the computer screen may give additional information such as the ink cartridge used is of an older generation and will not work in the printer.
This problem is affecting a range of HP printers that use the HP cartridge HP 301 Black and Colour. The range of printers affected is HP Deskjet 1010/1510/2540, Envy 4500/5530 and Officejet 4630. HP have developed these printers to use the cartridges they have manufactured and to not work with either old original brand ink cartridges or remanufactured versions of the same. What can you do? Absolutely nothing at the moment apart from buy the ânew generationâ cartridges.
HPâ reasoning on this is skeptical. They maintain that itâs to facilitate the future of the printers they are manufacturing but the more cynical HPâs users feel itâs a ploy to make it difficult to use the more affordable remanufactured or compatible ink cartridges. This all began in September 2010 when HP decided to update certain ink cartridges. They also reduced the volume levels of certain ink cartridges and said that a decrease in price would follow. They advise that you should check the expiry date of the ink cartridge before you open it. This only applies to original brand cartridges and not compatibles or remanufactured.
If the cartridge is still in the packaging find the warranty end date on the reverse of the package. If there are a v1 several places to the right of the date then the cartridge is the updated version. If the ink cartridge has been removed from the packaging and opened, check the product number on the base of the cartridge. If it has the letters âCNâ or âCRâ as a prefix then it is a new generation cartridge. The general feedback from people who have bought the printers that use the new generation cartridges is that while they are happy with the performance of the printer they are unhappy about the cost of the original brand ink cartridges and the fact that some of the older generation cartridges will not work with the printer.

5 Easy Steps to Installing HP ink Cartridges
Once you have bought your HP ink cartridge and assuming that you may not have replaced the cartridges recently, here are some useful tips on the installation of HP ink cartridges.
- Removing and installation of the Printer Cartridge
Open the Printer. Make sure the printer is switched on! If the printer is not switched on when the HP ink cartridge access-door is raised, the printer will not release the cartridges to allow the cartridge change to take place. If the ink cartridges are not docked properly on the right hand side then itâs possible you may damage the printer if try to remove them. If the scraper bar is blacking the cartridges you can push the scraper bar very gently and then press the power button. So, when you have turned on the power lift the printer cover and wait until the ink cartridges move to the right hand side of the printer. - Removing the used ink cartridges.
Press down very gently on the top of the cartridge catch. The pull out the bottom of the catch so it unhooks and then slide out the ink cartridge. - When to use a cartridge protector.
The cartridge protector is not just there to protect the ink cartridge in transit it. Itâs a very useful for removing a working HP ink cartridge such as the photo black. This helps with the temporary storage of the HP photo ink cartridge. - Installing the new HP ink cartridges.
First of all remove the protective tape, donât touch the copper strip â this may affect the cartridge recognition â if the ink cartridge is a compatible or non-OEM â it will be in a plastic cover. When you remove the plastic cover it can be advantageous to gently wipe the copper area with a soft cloth to remove any static build up caused by the plastic bag. This can sometime also affect the printerâs ability to recognise a compatible HP ink cartridge. - Cartridge contacts and Nozzles.
Make sure that you hold the ink cartridge so that the nozzles are facing down and that the contact is facing toward the printer. Gently slide the cartridge into its carrier. Hp cartridges marked with a triangle fit into the slot on the left and cartridges with a square or pentagons shape fit into the right hand slot in the carrier. Next, push the cartridge into the carrier until it makes a click sound and push down on the cartridge latch until it snaps shut.
When you have removed ink cartridges from your printer that you wish to reuse, such as a photo black cartridge, you can use the cartridge protector provided with the photo black. It is advisable then to store the ink cartridge upright in an airtight container (nozzles must not touch the container surface) to help prevent the cartridge from drying out. A further help may be to put a moist paper towel in the container with the ink cartridges. Always make sure the cartridge protector is properly fitted to the cartridge.

Ink for HP Printer
The Hewlett Packard Company or HP as it is better known is the largest printer technology business in the world. As you would expect from a large company like HP, they produce a variety of printers for every need from home use to the requirements of a large office. They also manufacture the toner and ink needed to run their printers albeit at a heavy cost to the consumer.
One of their biggest selling black ink toner is the Q2612A laser toner, otherwise known as the 12A, this toner will produce great reports in black and white and the printers are often seen as the workhorse of any office.
However, it is essential that low cost toner ink for most of the HP printers is available to help businesses save money in todays current climate. HP printers are listed in groups depending on the need of the end user:
LaserJet Printers: HP LaserJet printers produce high-speed, high volume and extremely high quality laser printing in colour and black and white. For example the HP Colour Laserjet 1600 uses the HP toner ink Q6000A, Q6001A, Q6002A, and Q6003A. The laserjet range are the smallest laser printers made by HP and as such are a quiet and compact model, ideal for offices where space is at a premium. Another popular model is the HP Laserjet 1000W, this monochrome printer uses the laser toner Q7115A and Q7115X. The toner cartridge Q7115A has an ink volume of approximately 2000 pages; a more economical cartridge is the laser toner Q7115X that has a page capacity of approximately 3500 pages. The printer model HP Color Laserjet CP1210 uses four colours including the black; HP CB540A laser toner, CB541A, CB542A and CB543A. The black laser toner cartridges give approximately 2200 pages at 5% coverage and the remaining colour approximately 1400 pages.
Deskjet Printers: The HP Deskjet printer models are perfect for everyday monochrome text printing and also give great results when printing photographs. The fastest printing Deskjet printer will print up to 36 pages per minute and some of the printers in this group of printers are mostly built from recycled plastic. The HP Deskjet 1000 printer uses the HP301XL ink cartridge, this is available as a black and a colour cartridge. The HP301XL, Hewlett Packard code; HP CH564EE ink cartridge comes in a standard size with 6ml of ink while the remanufactured high capacity version of the cartridge (HP301XL), comes with 15ml of ink! The HP301XL ink cartridge in black again comes in two sizes; the HP original black cartridge HP CH563EE has 8ml of ink and the remanufactured cartridge has 15ml of ink. There are great savings to be made buying the compatible HP 301XL ink cartridge as well as almost 100% more ink in the cartridges.
The HP Deskjet 1600C printer is another very popular printer that uses a combination of colour and black cartridges. The colour cartridge is the HP51645A ink cartrtidge otherwise known as the HP45 ink cartridge. The ink volume is 45ml in the remanufactured version and thatâs just a 5% increase on the original ink HP cartridge. However, the savings are in the price and this can be as much as 100% on the OEM cost.

HP Ink Cartridges USA Court Case
HP ink cartridges have made the main news headlines this week as a USA legal court case has began.
HP are being sued in the US by a Georgian women who believes the HP ink cartridge is programmed to instruct the printer of low ink levels, therefore needing a replacement even when there is still sufficient ink levels to continue printing. Every ink cartridge and inkjet cartridge contains a chip which has many tasks, one of which is to share the ink level readings of that ink cartridge. The printer will then inform the user, who can then purchase a new inkjet cartridge to complete the print job.
The controversial issue arises with the claim that the chip’s are designed to stop working according to specific time scales rather than ink levels remaining in the inkjet cartridge.
The Georgian women states that this technology has been in place from February 2001 in all ink cartridges and toner cartridges that HP have manufactured. She is seeking damages for the losses in HP ink cartridges she has purchased from the date mentioned. As a business owner these costs would be substantial. Printer running costs can be very high as we all know.
We are seeing more and more cases going through the legal system from both sides of the argument. OEM ink cartridge manufacturers have been sueing third party inkjet cartridge manufacturers for copyright breach. Third party ink cartridge producers have increase their share in the market which has not been welcome by brands such as Epson, HP, Dell, Brother and Canon. Lexmark have been successful in securing injunctions that prevented third party inkjet cartridges manufacturers from developing cartridges for some of their printers. But these were only temporary injunctions which only delay the problem for Lexmark.
Epson and HP have managed to stop rival manufacturers from developing chips for their ink cartridges, which effectively means the whole inkjet cartridge. Despite these small victories for the OEM producers they are losing the war. Compatible inkjet cartridges and re-manufactured ink cartridges account for 30% of the market. A big increase in the general usage may will come as a worrying statistic for all the OEM brands. This figure is only likely to increase as the global recession continues. Price over rules quality in such times, therefore compatible ink cartridges will be the more attractive option for business owners and directors.
