- Start things off on the right foot with a leisurely walk around the ring of Gullion, County Armagh. This well-known âArea of Outstanding Beautyâ surrounds many town places in the Armagh area but is still far enough away to escape from civilisation and enjoy nature to the fullest. Visit local attractions such as Camlough Lake, Slieve Gullion Forest Park, the Kilnasaggart Stone or last but not least the Mourne Mountains.
- Reaching up to over 700 feet high as well as stretching on for roughly 5 miles, itâs hard to imagine that the Cliffs of Moher, County Clare, could be missed by tourists. And while this destination may not be for those of the faint of heart, we strongly encourage you to face your fears and visit this liberating and breathe taking area. You can climb OâBrienâs Tower for an even greater chance of vertigo.
- A classic destination to travel to when roaming in Ireland, the Giantâs Causeway, County Antrim, has been always been an area surrounded by myth and mystery. Whether itâs the legend of the Irish giant Fionn mac Cumhaill using the causeway to walk to Scotland or the secret into how the hexagonal Basalt columns were formed. Donât let its popularity deter you from paying this area a visit.
- If youâre looking for somewhere to stay this May bank holiday weekend, you canât do much better than PowersCourt, County Wicklow. While a fine hotel on its own, what really makes this place special is the PowersCourt House & Gardens inside the surrounding estate. Stunning Italian and Japanese gardens, the highest waterfall in Ireland and two Championship Golf courses make PowersCourt a perfect destination to stay this weekend.
- Burren National Park, County Clare is a solid choice not just due to the large extent of limestone spread across the entire 1500 hectare zone. Despite the lack of soil, Burren is internationally famous for its landscape and flora. A visit to the Burren during the spring months will leave you mesmerised by the colourful diversity of flowering plants alongside the variety of wildlife and selection of ancient structures such as the Poulnabrone Dolmen (Hole of Sorrows).
- If you want to experience a quick adrenaline rush in a relatively short space of time (depending on how long it takes you to tip-toe across that is), Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, County Antrim offers such thing. At only 20m long, one may not see crossing the bridge as much of a challenge, but once you are 100 feet above crashing waves against the hard rocks below, on a narrow metre wide path, you might think different… Still a great place to take in the sights though.
- The bustling streets of Dublin, may not strike one as a place to enjoy nature this weekend, however the city does offer some fantastic beaches. One of which, Killiney Beach, is a rocky yet still pleasant path to walk at low tide, but come high tide the beach is a serene, calm place to go for a swim.
- If youâd rather visit a beach with a bit more action, Rossnowlaugh Beach, County Donegal, is a popular blue flag beach with rich golden sand and perfect waves. Drop into Fin McCoolâs surf school to learn how to ride the surf or call up to Surferâs Bar for fantastic food and exceptional views. You can even spend the night at the comfy SandHouse hotel, located right by the beach.
- Fancy seeing Ireland from a different point of view? Take a helicopter tour and see Eagle Island, County Mayo with a birdâs eye view. The island is currently uninhabited and boasts an impressive lighthouse and along with the wild waves and winds colliding against every side of the island, it makes for some spectacular images. Make sure to bring your camera for this one!
- Whether itâs the crazy aul antics of Fr. Jack, the innocence of Fr. Dougal, the kindness of Mrs Doyle, or the sorrow we feel for Fr. Ted Crilly, Father Ted is a show that brought much joy to many people across not just Ireland, but the whole of the UK as well. That is why we think any âtrueâ fan of the show should go pay a visit to âCraggy Islandâ, aka Kilfenora, County Clare to see the iconic parochial house used in the show. We recommend going here even if your not a fan, as it is still a beautiful area to visit.
