Canon Pixma MP250 Printer Review & Troubleshoot:

Canon Pixma MP250 is a entry level multifunction inkjet device. For the price it comes at, it performs all the 3 functions of print, scan and copy well.

With a maximum print resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi, Canon Pixma MP250 gives very crisp and clear print outputs. The 1200 x 2400 dpi scanner too produces average quality results. On the photocopy front however some clarity seems to be getting lost in translation. The colour print speed is 4.8 ppm while mono colour prints get printed at 7 ppm. The Canon Pixma MP250 ink cartridges are of 2 types, pigment for black and dye based for the rest 3 colours. Overall they give about 2000 prints per cartridge. The dimension of the printer are compact and its light weight means easy portability. Connectivity is only through USB 2.0. It has a feeder capacity of 100 pages and a tray of 30 pages.

The borderless photo printing gives very good results, enhanced by photo paper. Also the shadow correction helps in generation of more crisp scans, especially around the edges. The print costs are moderately high and can be lowered by the use of compatible Canon Pixma MP250 ink cartridges.

Advantages:
  • Very good borderless photos
  • Automatic shadow correction in scans
  • Good value for money
Disadvantages:
  • Limited connectivity, and given that this is intended to be a photo printer, that is a sore spot
  • Photocopy results are below average
  • No duplex printing
Conclusion:

Canon Pixma MP250 is another inkjet multifunctional device which, even though it is priced at the entry level, produces results which punch above its class. The results are good in both print and scan. This printer is aimed at small home and student users, whose usage patterns best reflect this printer's abilities.

Compatible cartridge:

The compatible Canon Pixma MP250 ink cartridges are:

  • Canon Pixma PG512BK ink cartridge
  • Canon Pixma CL511C ink cartridge

What to do when printing becomes faint or colours are incorrect of Canon Pixma MP250 printer?
If print results are blurred or colours are not printed correctly, the print head nozzles are probably clogged. Follow the procedure below to print the nozzle check pattern, check the print head nozzle condition, and then clean the Printheads. If printed ruled lines are misaligned or print results are otherwise unsatisfactory, aligning the Print Head may improve print quality.

Important: Do not rinse or wipe the Canon Pixma MP250 ink Cartridges. This can cause trouble with the FINE Cartridges.
Note: Before performing maintenance operation

  • Check if ink remains in the FINE Cartridges. See the ink status
  • Check if the brand new Canon Pixma MP250 ink Cartridges are installed correctly. See the replacing procedure from the manual
  • Check if the orange protective tape on the bottom of the FINE Cartridge is removed. If not remove it before performing any operation
  • If the alarm lamp lights or flashes orange, refer to on-screen user manual
Increasing the print quality in the printer driver settings may improve the print result.

When the Print Results Are Blurred or Uneven:
Step 1:
Print the Nozzle Check Pattern.
After cleaning the print heads, print and examine the nozzle check pattern. If there are missing lines or horizontal white streaks in the pattern, it may be possible that the printheads are clogged, cleaning them will resolve the issue.

Step 2: Clean the printheads.
If the problem is not resolved after cleaning the print head twice then perform the print head deep cleaning.

Step 3: Clean the print head deeply.
If the problem still persist, turn off the power of your printer and perform the print Head cleaning deeply again after 24 hours. After that also If the problem remains go for step 4.

Step 4: Replace the Canon Pixma MP250 ink Cartridges
Generally the issue resolves after replacing the cartridges as printing issues mostly occur because of using old cartridges.

Note: If the problem is still not resolved after replacing the FINE Cartridge, contact the service center. When the print results are not as expected such as the ruled lines are misaligned, See process for aligning the print head. You can also perform the maintenance operation from your computer. For details, refer to the on-screen manual.

Most Common FAQs for Canon Pixma MP250:

Q. Just few days back I've purchased Canon Pixma MP250. Initially it was working fine but suddenly the printer display panel is showing ‘offline’ message. What could be the reason? What should I do to resolve this issue?
A.
There could many causes behind this issue. Please follow the guidelines below to resolve the same:

  • Check whether the LED on the operational panel is lit. If it is not, then your printer is offline. So, turn the power button on
  • Power saver feature in some printers turn off the printer automatically after more than 5 minutes of inactivity. Press any button on the panel except the ‘ON’ button to activate the printer
  • Ensure the USB cable connected to the computer or the printer is attached correctly. If not, please reconnect the USB cable properly
  • The printer may mistakenly be set to offline mode. To set the printer online go to printers folder and open it
  • If all the above options don't work, set your printer to default from the printers folders
These are some of the main causes for the printer displaying ‘offline’ message. Hope this sets your printer back to normal.

Q. Would you accept the order if I purchase a single Canon Pixma MP250 ink cartridge?
A.
Yes. We can take orders for a single Canon Pixma MP250 ink cartridge delivery without any obligations.

Q. What is a Fine cartridge? Is it different from Canon Pixma MP250 ink cartridges I have?
A.
Canon refers to a FINE cartridge for those ink cartridges which have a built-in mechanical printer on the cartridge instead of a separate one in the printer. This allows the printer to have just two ink cartridges - the black and the single tricolour ink cartridge. Fine cartridges are Canon's technology that makes user experience more convenient by having a significant part of the printer (print head) to be a disposable item. No. The Canon Pixma MP250 ink cartridges you are referring are fine cartridges.

Q. I am trying to locate the serial number on my Canon Pixma MP250. Where do I look for it?
A. In some Canon products the serial number is located at the back and in some it is present inside the machine. The serial number for Canon Pixma MP250 printer is a 9 digit long number. It consists of 4 alphabets followed by 5 numbers like so: ZZZZ00000. You must look at the back of the printer to locate this number. It will be present on a sticker with other information like bar codes etc. If you are not able to find it then look in the interior of the printer. A white sticker may be visible. If you have access to the packaging of the printer then you can find the sticker with serial number on it in the inside of the carton.

Q. My Canon Pixma MP250 printer shows an out of ink message. But I need to use the scanning function of the printer. How should I go about it? Is it possible to use the other features of the printer without replacing the Canon Pixma MP250 ink cartridges?
A. Yes, you can use the other feature like scanning and copying before replacing the consumed Canon Pixma MP250 ink cartridges. You will have to clear the Out of Ink error message on your printer screen first. In order to do so, you must press the Resume/Cancel button for about 5 to 6 seconds. This will remove the message. Now you can use the printer for scanning and other functions.
While you do this, always remember that once you remove the error message, you must not use the printer to print. If that happens then the print quality will be poor and it may damage your printer. Once the message clears off, the ink levels of the Canon Pixma MP250 ink cartridges will not be known. So printing will cause internal damages and the print head nozzles may also get clogged. You must replace the consumed Canon Pixma MP250 ink cartridges as soon as possible.

Q. What is the use of the ink absorber? I bought a Canon Pixma MP250 printer sometime back. A message to replace it being reflected over the screen.
A. An ink absorber is a waste ink collecting unit in your printer. During the cleaning cycles of the print head nozzles, some amount of ink is used from the Canon Pixma MP250 ink cartridges. This ink then goes to the ink absorber. Though the ink absorber lasts long but once it is full you will have to get it replaced. Unlike the Canon Pixma MP250 ink cartridges that can be replaced at home, you will have to call a trained professional from the Canon repair centre to have the ink absorber replaced. Trying to replace it by self at home may lead to damages and there is a threat of ink spilling in the printer. If that happens then it will not be easy to clean.

Q. I have just purchased a Canon Pixma MP250 printer. I need to know which operating systems is it compatible with?
A. Usually the Canon products are compatible with a lot of operating systems. But to find out the exact number and types of compatible operating systems is possible. To do so, open the printer software on your computer and select the Drivers tab. It will either give you detailed information on which drivers are required to work the printer on your system or it will give you a message to download a compatibility status of the printer.
