Canon Pixma MP495 Printer Review & Troubleshoot:

Another inexpensive inkjet all in one form Cannon, the Canon Pixma MP495 is a good option for its functionality, design and ease of use.

While the Canon Pixma MP495 comes with an enhanced 4800 dpi print resolution, the print quality can be a bit poor at times. For those with regular printing needs, this will be a slight damper. The color printouts can have missing colors in solid colour areas The scanner comes with a 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution and the scan results are good. The print speeds range from 8.8 ppm for black to 5 ppm for coloured printouts. A fun photo print would take more than 1.5 minutes which could be painful at times. The startup takes about 15 seconds which adds to a long first copy out time of over 20 seconds. For all its functionality, this is a very compact printer and lightweight too. This comes with 2 Canon Pixma MP495 ink cartridges, a pigment based black and dye based tri-colour cartridge.

While this is being claimed a an image printer, it only supports WiFi and lacks SD card or direct print from mobile phones. The various LEDs get a lot of job done, though a direct photocopy option would have been useful.

Advantages:
  • Good overall value for money
  • Good speed
  • Easy to install
  • Compact with a small footprint
Disadvantages:
  • No memory card or PictBridge
  • Slightly poor print quality
  • High running costs, can be rectified using compatible Canon Pixma MP495 ink cartridges
Conclusion:

If the usage is more school projects and office documents , then Canon Pixma MP495 comes as a good option. It is good for intermittent usage as a printer, scanner and copier. However if the usage is more image oriented then the results will be far from impressive.

Compatible cartridge:

The compatible Canon Pixma MP495 ink cartridges are:

  • Canon Pixma PG510 ink cartridge
  • Canon Pixma CL511 ink cartridge

How to Install FINE Cartridges for your Canon Pixma MP495 printer?
Several printing issues might occur if one is using old, dried out or faulty Canon Pixma MP495 ink cartridges. There are various points that one must keep in mind while installing the new cartridges for their printer.

Step 1: Lift the Scanning unit (cover) and fix it with the scanning unit support.

Step 2: The FINE Cartridge holder should move to the installation position. If the FINE Cartridge holder does not move, make sure that the machine is turned on. For details, refer to online guide available

Step 3: Follow the next procedure to insert the black and colour Canon Pixma MP495 ink Cartridges into their corresponding slots.

Note: When opening the scanning unit (cover), the FINE Cartridge holder automatically moves out.

Step 4: Open the ink cartridge locking cover given on the right side. Pinch it firmly and pull up the cover

Step 5: After removing the black FINE Cartridge from its box, pull the orange protective tape in the direction of the arrow given and remove it carefully by following the guidelines from manual

Note:

  • Handle the Canon Pixma MP495 ink Cartridges carefully. Do not drop or apply excessive pressure to insert them
  • Be careful not to stain your hands or surrounding work area with ink on the removed protective tape
  • Do not touch the metal parts of the FINE Cartridges. The machine may not print properly if you touch them

Step 6: Place the black FINE Cartridge into the right slot. Do not knock the cartridge against the sides of the holder.

Step 7: Push down the ink cartridge locking cover until you hear a click to close it completely. View the ink cartridge locking cover straight on and check that it is locked correctly.

Step 8: Insert the colour FINE cartridge into the left cartridge holder in the same way as the black FINE cartridge.

Step 9: Make sure the LED changes after inserting the cartridges properly. It may take about 90 seconds for the first time to lit the led.

Note:

  • Once you have installed the FINE Cartridges, do not remove them unnecessarily
  • If the Alarm lamp lights orange, this ensure that the cartridges are correctly installed
  • The LED will turn off if the machine is not operated for about 5 minutes. To restore the display, press any button except the ON button

Most Common FAQs for Canon Pixma MP495:

Q. My Canon Pixma MP495 printer isn’t detecting the new Canon Pixma MP495 ink cartridges (compatible) I installed yesterday. I opened the printer and found some ink was leaking. Is it ok to clean it myself or get a professional to do it? Please help.
A.
It can happen if the printer becomes dirty inside due to surplus ink getting accumulated in the ink cartridge tray or ink overflow tray. You need to clean your printer and then install the cartridges again. At the same time, please run the printer’s self-cleaning feature before cleaning up the ink yourself.

Q. I recently bought new compatible Canon Pixma MP495 ink cartridges for my Canon Pixma MP495 printer, but the cartridges look a little different from the original. I’m unsure whether they will fit into my printer if I install them.
A.
You don’t have to worry about the slight difference in the appearance of the cartridges as that will not cause any harm. It is only because of patenting of the original products. The quality and performance of both are the same; in fact, compatible ink cartridges print number of pages and cut costs.

Q. I am aware that ink cartridges can be stored for up to six months if not used immediately. I bought Canon Pixma MP495 ink cartridges in bulk recently and won’t be using all in the near future. Could you suggest some measures I ought to take to ensure they stay in good condition?
A.
Yes, your ink cartridges will be in good working condition for six months. You just need to take care of a few things to sustain their longevity, such as protecting them from heat, direct exposure to sunlight and also dust. Please store them in room temperature environs, preferably in the dark, keep them in the original pack and keep them stored standing in the upright position.

Q. I own a Canon Pixma MP495 printer. I have been using it for quite some time now but recently the screen displayed a message saying that the ink absorber is full. What do I do now? Can I replace the ink absorber just like the Canon Pixma MP495 ink cartridges?
A. When the print head nozzles get blocked the cleaning cycles are run. This process makes use of a certain amount of ink from the Canon Pixma MP495 ink cartridges to clear the clogged nozzles. This used ink gets collected in the waste ink absorber. Once the ink absorber gets full it needs to be replaced. However, you cannot replace the ink absorber at home like the Canon Pixma MP495 ink cartridges. In order to replace the ink absorber, you will have to contact a repair center authorized by Canon. Remember that once the ink absorber is full the printer should not be moved much. This may cause the ink to leak from the ink absorber. You should also not attempt to replace it yourself.

Q. My Canon Pixma MP495 printer is displaying an offline message when I try to print. What is the problem and how can I solve it?
A. There is a possibility that the Use Printer Offline option may be selected. To be able to use the printer in such a case you will have to do the following:

  1. Go to the Control Panel in your system and select the option of Devices and Printers.
  2. A dialogue box will open. Select the Canon Pixma MP495 printer option.
  3. In this dialogue box on the top, select See What is Printing option. You will be able to see if the Use Printer Offline option has been enabled or not. If it is enabled then disable it.
You will be able to use the printer easily now.

Q. I have a Canon Pixma MP495 printer that I use in my studio at home. Lately, I have noticed smudge marks on the printouts. Can you please guide me how to solve this printing problem? Can this be caused by the Canon Pixma MP495 ink cartridges that I have recently replaced?
A. The problem may not be necessarily caused by the Canon Pixma MP495 ink cartridges. First of all, check the quality of paper that is being used for printing. Check the media settings on your system. The paper in the paper tray should be same as the paper settings in your system. The paper should be the apt for your purpose. Overtime you load the paper for printing, check that it is not curled. Also, set the intensity low when you print images. You should also check the papered roller. If it is dirty then clean it carefully and try printing. Make sure that your purchase the Canon Pixma MP495 ink cartridges from a reliable source.

Q. I need the serial number of my Canon Pixma MP495 printer but I am unable to locate it. Where is it located on the printer?
A. The serial number of your printer is a 9 digit number that consists of 4 alphabets and 5 numbers. You should be able to find it either at the back of the printer or inside the printer. Your printer will have a stuck with barcodes and other details. The serial number of the machine will also be present on this sticker. If the serial number is inside the printer and ink has been spilled on it then use a moist cloth to carefully remove the ink. You will be able to see the serial number.
