A budget inkjet all in one, the Pixma MX535 tries to do it all-in-one single machine. Coming in at a modest price, it crams nearly all the features that any small office or home user would expect in his all in one.
The printer in this device comes with a maximum possible resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi, with a print speed of 9.7 ppm in monochrome and 5.5 ppm in colour. Photos of 10 x 15 cm take approximately 46 seconds to print. The 2 Canon Pixma MX535 Ink Cartridges come in black and colour. The scanner has a resolution of up to 1200 x 2400 dpi, with an A4 sheet taking up to 15 seconds to get scanned. The print quality is good though not up to what we expect from a Canon. Scanning results and photocopying quality are good, though an occasional banding can be seen in photocopies.
The Pixma MX535 has a host of connectivity options including USB, WiFI, Bluetooth. Google cloud and apple AirPlay are also supported making printing from mobiles easy. There is a 100 sheet input tray and an extra 30 sheet ADF, with automatic duplexing available. The Input tray is oddly placed and ends up increasing the printer’s footprint when it is being used. The 2 Canon Pixma MX535 Ink Cartridges mean that the colour cartridge is to be replaced even if only one colour from the three has exhausted. This makes printing a slightly expensive affair.
While the modern connectivity options of Bluetooth and wireless are available, ethernet has been omitted from the list, which can hinder large offices with LAN connectivity and non-wireless computers. The control panel in the front of this unit has a list of features along with a 2 line 16 character mono LCD display.
Advantages:- Automatic duplexing
- Print resolution of 4,800dpi
- 30-sheet Automatic document feeder
- Direct printing from smartphones
- Handy access point for direct print from mobile without any computer connection
- Large footprint when it is opened and running
- Highly noisy operations
- USB port does not allow direct printing
Canon Pixma MX535 tries to pack a lot of features in a small package at a very lucrative cost. It does pack auto duplexing, ADF, lots of connectivity options, good image editing software and more. The areas it loses out on are ethernet, noisy operation and a large footprint when printing. If one can live with these, it presents a value for money alternative with good performance and high-quality output.
Cartridge requirementsThe compatible Canon Pixma MX535 Ink Cartridges are
- Canon PG540XL Black ink cartridge
- Canon CL541XL Colour ink cartridge
There are some problems that we face even after replacing the cartridges which we can be easily avoided if we install the Canon ink cartridges properly by following the steps below:
- Open the output tray followed by the cover
- Gently lower the ink cartridge lock lever
- Unseal the ink cartridge by pulling the seal tape in opposite direction. Do not touch the golden print head contacts
- Raise the ink cartridge lock lever. The black Canon Pixma MX535 ink cartridge goes into the right slot. While putting the cartridge into the slot lower it slightly
- Confirm that the cartridge is installed firmly by checking the lever is placed in its original position
- The colour cartridge goes to the left slot in a similar manner
- Confirm that the cartridges fit into the place and are at the same level
- Close the output cover. As you close it the printer will start cleaning the print head
- Wait until the cleaning takes place and LCD status monitor should display message starting auto print head alignment and asks you to load an A4 sheet of paper
Sometimes the paper gets curled and gets jammed inside the printer. To prevent further malfunction remove the partially feed paper. Before printing further, one must always remove the jammed paper by following the steps below:
- Open the paper output cover by gently pulling it out
- Turn off the power and disconnect the power cord
- Carefully remove the paper from inside without touching the film or the rail to avoid further malfunctions
- If the Canon Pixma MX535 ink cartridge holder is above the paper slide it to either side
- Do not push the jammed paper inside. Gently pull it out from the front
- Make sure no slip remain inside the printer
