Expert Verdict
The HP LaserJet Pro P1102 laser printer is an old school model that focuses on monochrome printing. It's ideal for locations where text printing is all that's required, and its restricted features keep it tiny and compact enough to fit on a desk without being intrusive. Wireless printing is one of the most recent technologies to enter the printer market. Wi-Fi connectivity used to be limited to a small number of models in a range, then to the more expensive, premium devices, but it's now becoming more common. Wireless is included in HP's brand-new LaserJet P1102w, as well as a button to turn it on and off.
Despite the increasing popularity of color laser printers, many offices still spend their days printing pages of black and white text. The HP P1102, as one of the best monochromatic laser printers on the market, is ideal for various office scenarios. It prints black and white text swiftly & efficiently with HP Laserjet Pro P1102 Toner Cartridges. Because the input and output trays fold out only when needed, this printer has relatively small dimensions. The front panel folds down to reveal a 150-sheet input tray, and the paper stop slides out to the front. A 10-sheet priority feeder for envelopes or special media is cleverly positioned above the main input tray, which is unusual in a machine at this price point. The single-piece drum and HP Laserjet Pro P1102 Toner Cartridges have only one capacity, however, HP manages to more than reduce this by including a 700-page introductory cartridge.
The top panel features a textured black inlay, with a high-gloss black plastic surround. On the left side there is a small control panel with indications for wireless connection, errors, and power, as well as two buttons for wireless and task cancellation. Lift the top cover to reveal the small, discrete drum and HP Laserjet Pro P1102 Toner Cartridges, which are tucked away deep within the printer's bowels. This is an easy-to-install consumable that yields 1,600 pages and is the machine's only consumable. Even among monochrome printers, this is a very efficient device. Installing a new HP Laserjet Pro P1102 Toner Cartridges is simple and quick, thanks to HP's smart design.
For Windows XP, Vista, and 7, as well as OS X starting with version 10.4, HP offers 32-bit and 64-bit drivers. A Linux driver is also available for download. There aren't a lot of other applications available. The LaserJet Pro P1102w is rated at 18ppm by HP, which is a respectable speed for a personal laser printer. Our 5-page text print took 27 seconds or 11.1 pages per minute, but when we increased the page count to a 20-page document, the pace increased to 15.8 pages per minute, or over 75% of the advertised speed. A 5-page text and graphics document printed at 13 ppm and a 15 x 10cm photo on an A4 sheet took just 13 seconds at the machine's highest resolution, called FastRes 1200 with HP Laserjet Pro P1102 Toner Cartridges. It took only 10 seconds at the standard FastRes 600.
It's tough to say anything new regarding the print quality of modern monochrome laser printers because almost every manufacturer has figured out the basics. Normal point sizes, from 10 to 12 points, have no visible blemishes and are dense and dark. The bundled paper tray only holds up to 150 sheets of normal laser printer paper, which is a drawback given the printer's outstanding speed. Because it only takes a few minutes of printing before a paper refill is necessary, this low capacity may prevent people from purchasing the printer and distract from its excellent page per minute pace. Overall, this is a solid entry-level mono laser printer that comes with wireless connectivity as standard and produces high-quality pages quickly with HP Laserjet Pro P1102 Toner Cartridges.
