The Brother HL-5440D printer looks very functional and businesslike with its squashed cube structure and rounded vertical edges. The Brother HL-5440D is a good, mono laser printer which does pretty much what it says on the box. It has a good turn of speed. Even though the print quality is mediocre for some greyscale photos, the quality is good for text. The toner cartridge or the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly may not be installed correctly. Draw out the drum unit. Gently take out the toner cartridge, and then put it back into the drum unit following the steps below:

• Make sure that the machine is turned on.
• Open the front cover of the machine by pressing the release button.
• Draw out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly from the machine.
• Take the toner cartridges out of the drum unit by pushing down the green lock lever.
• Put the toner cartridge back into its place until it locks into place. Make sure to put it properly otherwise the drum unit will lift automatically.
• Repeat the above step for all the Brother HL5440D Toner Cartridges.
• Put the drum unit and cartridges assembly back into the machine.
• Close the front cover of the machine.

How to deal with error ‘Jam Inside’ while using Brother HL5440D Toner Cartridges?

Follow the steps listed below to resolve the error ‘Jam inside’:

• Make sure to leave the machine turned on for 10 minutes for the internal fan to cool the extremely hot parts inside the machine.
• Draw the paper tray out of the machine completely.
• Slowly take out the jammed papers from the tray using both the hands.
• Open the front cover using the release button.
• Gently take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly. This will help in pulling out the jammed paper from the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly, or this may release the paper so you can pull it out from inside of the machine.
• Take the toner cartridge out of the drum unit by pushing down the green lock lever.
• Remove the jammed paper inside the drum unit if there is any.
• Put the toner cartridge back into the machine until it locks into place.
• Put the assembly and toner cartridge back into the machine.
• Close the front cover of the machine.
