Canon Pixma MP280 Printer Review & Troubleshooting:

A multi-functional device that starts from the very bottom in terms of pricing, and gives good value for money results in prints and scans.

The printer is good for 4800 dpi and gives good quality clear prints. The scanning and copying resolution is 2400 x 2400 dpi and the results are good for the price range this printer operates in. The speed for monochrome prints is 8.4 ppm and colours gets printed at 4.8 ppm. The input feeder tray takes 100 papers at a time which given the small duty cycles is adequate. The Canon Pixma MP280 ink cartridges are called hybrid by the company, which essentially means the black cartridge is pigment and coloured ones are dye based. They are good for about 2000 prints, and result in moderately economical operations. This is a lightweight and compact printer, with a small footprint. The Canon Pixma MP280 ink cartridges are also available in high yield sizes, further lowering the print costs.

While the display is just LED lights, the printer even has a button for image resizing, a feature usually found in costlier devices. The various buttons on the top give Canon Pixma MP280 enough functionality for its size.

Advantages:
  • Very good, HD quality Photo printing
  • Full HD movie print, enables printing high quality frames from video
  • Good overall scan and photocopy results
Disadvantages:
  • Only USB support, no card slots etc for image prints
  • Very rudimentary, bare bone drivers and functionality
Conclusion:

Canon Pixma MP280 is meant for home use, and that is evident from its connectivity options, performance, feed tray and more. Anything above that light duty use, in the form of home office or small office is going to get tough. Best suited for infrequent home and student use.

Compatible cartridge:

The compatible Canon Pixma MP280 ink cartridges are:

  • Canon Pixma PG510 ink cartridge
  • Canon Pixma CL511 ink cartridge

Caution: When setting the Scanning Unit Support back to its original position, be sure to hold the Scanning Unit(Cover) firmly, and be careful not to get your fingers caught.

Q. I am a Canon Pixma MP280 user. I print more text documents in comparison to images and color prints. Is there a way I can save on the Canon Pixma MP280 ink cartridges?
A. The printer settings offer an option known as Greyscale Printing. Using this option the printer only uses the black ink to print. It not only saves the Canon Pixma MP280 ink cartridges but it also saves on your money. If this option is not selected then the printer will make use of all the inks to make black and then prints. This is a wasteful use of color inks. In order to enable the Greyscale Printing, you have to go to the Printing Preference dialogue box and go to the Main tab. Here you can enable the Greyscale Printing option.

Q. I need to check the ink status of the Canon Pixma MP280 ink cartridges for the Canon Pixma MP280 that I use. Can you guide me how to do this?
A. The ink levels of the Canon Pixma MP280 ink cartridges are detected right from the time the new ink cartridge are installed. The printer detects the ink levels as the cartridges are used and gives a message when the levels are very low. To check the ink levels of the Canon Pixma MP280 ink cartridges consumed by the printer, you need to go to the Printer Status Monitor to do do. You may also do this while printing. Click on the Printer icon of your printer. Here you will be able to see the options to check the exact ink levels of the Canon Pixma MP280 ink cartridges.

Q. Even when I give the command for print in my Canon Pixma MP280 printer, it does not start printing. Why is this happening?
A. This error may occur at times with the printer. Check the power plug of the printer. If it is not secured properly then do it and start the printer again. Check the printer connection with your system as well. It should be properly connect or else the printing will not happen. Try restarting your system and given a new print command. While doing so check that Canon Pixma MP280 is selected in the device section. You may also reinstall the driver as it becomes corrupt at times. If you have given command to print a very large data file then the printing will not happen. You will have to reduce the size of the file that you wish to print first and then try printing.

Q. How can I delete a print job that I have given a print command for by mistake? I use a Canon Pixma MP280 printer.
A. If you want to cancel the print job, go to the Canon IJ Status Monitor. To go there, you need to click on the button that represents Status Monitor on the taskbar. Once the Canon IJ Status Monitor appears, select the option of Display Print Queue. A window will appear that shows the print jobs that are in queue. From the Printer menu, click on the option Cancel All Documents. The system will ask for your confirmation. Click on Yes. This will cancel all the print jobs that you had given command to print.

Q. The paper is not feeding properly in my Canon Pixma MP280 printer even when I have placed new paper in the feed tray. How do I correct it?
A. When you load paper for print, you need to keep in mind a few points. First of all, check that the paper that you have placed in the paper tray is not too thin or too thick. The media setting in your system should match the type of paper that you are putting in the printer. Use the paper guides.
