A multi-functional device that starts from the very bottom in terms of pricing, and gives good value for money results in prints and scans.
The printer is good for 4800 dpi and gives good quality clear prints. The scanning and copying resolution is 2400 x 2400 dpi and the results are good for the price range this printer operates in. The speed for monochrome prints is 8.4 ppm and colours gets printed at 4.8 ppm. The input feeder tray takes 100 papers at a time which given the small duty cycles is adequate. The Canon Pixma MP280 ink cartridges are called hybrid by the company, which essentially means the black cartridge is pigment and coloured ones are dye based. They are good for about 2000 prints, and result in moderately economical operations. This is a lightweight and compact printer, with a small footprint. The Canon Pixma MP280 ink cartridges are also available in high yield sizes, further lowering the print costs.
While the display is just LED lights, the printer even has a button for image resizing, a feature usually found in costlier devices. The various buttons on the top give Canon Pixma MP280 enough functionality for its size.

How to replace fine cartridges of Canon Pixma MP280?
When remaining ink cautions or error occurs, the error code will appear on the LED to inform you for replacing the cartridges. To replace the cartridges perform the following action:
Important: Handling FINE Cartridges
- Do not touch the electrical contacts (A) or print head nozzles (B) on the FINE Cartridge. The machine may not print properly if you touch it
- If you remove Canon Pixma MP280 ink Cartridges, replace them immediately. Do not leave the machine with the Cartridges removed
- Once a FINE Cartridge has been installed, do not remove it from the machine and leave it out in the open. This will cause the Cartridge to dry out, and the machine may not operate properly when reinstalled. To maintain the printing quality, use the Cartridges within six months of first use
Step1: Make sure that the power is turned on. Open the Paper Output Tray. Refer the pictures in user manual for replacing a the cartridges.
Step2: Lift the Scanning Unit (Cover), then hold it open with the Scanning Unit Support (C). The FINE Cartridge Holder moves to the replacement position.
Caution: Do not hold the FINE Cartridge Holder to stop or move it forcibly. Do not touch the Cartridge Holder until it stops completely. The machine may be stained with ink. Be careful use fine cloth or tissue paper to wipe off the ink from the inside of the machine
Step3: Remove the empty Canon Pixma MP280 ink Cartridges.
- Pinch the tabs and open the Ink Cartridge Locking Cover.
- Then, Remove the FINE Cartridge carefully to avoid staining of clothing or the surrounding area. Dispose empty cartridges.
Step4: Prepare the new FINE Cartridge.
Take the new Canon Pixma MP280 ink Cartridges out of its package and remove the orange protective tape (D) gently. See user manual for more reference
Step5:Install the FINE Cartridge.
- Put a new FINE Cartridge in the FINE Cartridge Holder
- The Colour FINE Cartridge should be installed into the left slot and the Black FINE Cartridge should be Installed into the right slot.
- Close the Ink Cartridge Locking Cover to lock the FINE Cartridge into place. Push down the Ink Cartridge Locking Cover until it clicks.
- Confirm that the Ink Cartridge Locking Cover is closed correctly.
Step6: Lift the Scanning Unit (Cover) slightly to set the Scanning Unit Support back to its original position, and gently close the Scanning Unit (Cover).
Caution: When setting the Scanning Unit Support back to its original position, be sure to hold the Scanning Unit(Cover) firmly, and be careful not to get your fingers caught.
Note: When you start printing after replacing the FINE Cartridge, the machine starts cleaning the Print Head automatically. Do not perform any other operations until the machine completes the cleaning of the Print Head.
