Expert Verdict
There is a growing market for all-in-one printers that can handle paper larger than A4. These fall printers majorly fall into two categories: those that can print large photos and those that can handle print jobs on plain paper for posters or publications folded to A4. Epson’s WorkForce WF-7610 can do both the jobs and that too efficiently. For an A3+ printer, the size will always be fairly large, but Epson manages to keep the size of the WF-7610 to that of a desktop photocopier. Its compact design is assisted further by the use of a telescopic output tray, which can be extended halfway when you’re printing A4. This compact design printer does not take much space on your desk, what more can one ask for?
A substantial A3 scanner sits on the top of the printer. This is an improvement over the years with this range of Epson. Besides, the scanner has a duplex 35-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF), letting you scan or copy double-sided documents in one operation without having to do them manually. Though there’s only a single scan head, duplex scans have to pass through three times. The control panel includes a large, 109mm touchscreen, as well as a few pads for fax dialling. Below, on the left-hand side, a socket is placed for connecting USB drives and two more for SD and Memory cards. The four Epson WorkForce WF-7610 ink cartridges include black ink, which comes in three capacities; the highest is 2,200 sheets. All Epson WorkForce WF-7610 ink cartridges clip into a head carriage that can be accessed from under the scanner flatbed.
Coming to speeds, Epson claims speeds of 18ppm for mono ink and 10ppm for colour Epson WorkForce WF-7610 ink cartridges, which for an inkjet printer are good speeds. In our tests, however, we could not see more than 14.3ppm in mono for the 20-page test document. For the five-page document, the printer managed speeds of 10.7ppm; 11.5ppm in draft mode. The mono text and colour graphics prints returned 5ppm, which is less than half the specified speed, but still decent. An equivalent A3 page may take 25-27 seconds. Copies may take 22 seconds and 29 seconds for A4 and A3 respectively, and 50 seconds for five mono pages from the ADF. Talking about the print quality, photo-image quality is stunning - colours printed in the document are true and looks natural in skin tones on portraits and in landscapes. Though some hues can be weak in plain paper prints and a little more in copies as well, they are still good enough for basic work. Also, the black text is clean and sharp, and of a better quality display, which is a good thing for less expensive Epson inkjets. Though Brother has introduced a range of A3 printers, those with A3 paper trays are fewer. The least expensive is the MFC-J6520DW, but it costs more than the WF-7610 and has no duplex scan or copy. Considering the features at this price, of course, you should buy it.
At the recommended retail price, Epson’s WorkForce WF-7610 seems to be an ideal choice for any small business that needs to print on paper larger than A4. Along with handling the larger paper size, the WF-7610 also prints quickly, is full-duplex and has very reasonable running costs, particularly compared with a laser, thanks to its Epson WorkForce WF-7610 ink cartridges. Besides the Epson WorkForce, WF-7610 ink cartridges are replaceable, the good thing is you only need to replace those Epson WorkForce WF-7610 ink cartridges which are consumed. Moreover, Its ability to offer excellent photo prints is a hit.

While many times there are A3 printers with a smaller A4 sized scanner, not so with Epson WorkForce WF-7610, as it has a large tabloid (11 x 19 inch) sized scanner too. The maximum resolution for both the printer and the scanner is 1200 x 1200 dpi, which gives crisp looking colour printouts and clear scans with good quality. The print speed range from 18 ppm for black and 11 ppm for colour. The 4 Epson WorkForce WF-7610 ink cartridges used in this printer come in 3 capacities with the maximum being 2200 prints per cartridge. This is a inkjet printer with a heavy print cycle of 20000 prints per month. While most A3 printers tend to be large, this is a very compact model being just as big as a small photocopy machine. This has a small paper tray of 251 sheets. The connectivity options are many, with USB, WiFi, SD card and more.
