A. You will have to do one of the following tasks below to fix this problem. If one solution does not work, try the other solutions mentioned below:
- Decrease the print density setting through printer properties. This decreases the amount of background shading.
- Check the printer's environment. Very dry (low humidity) conditions can increase the amount of background shading.
- The toner cartridge might be defective or running out of ink. Try replacing the toner cartridge to fix this problem.
- Make sure that the print media adheres to the paper specifications provided by your printer.

Q. How Redistributing the toner can be helpful?
A. When the toner is low, faded or light areas appear on the printed page. You might be able to temporarily improve the print quality by redistributing the toner, which means that you might be able to finish the current print job before replacing the HP Laserjet 1020 Plus toner cartridges. To do so follow the steps below:
- Open the print cartridge door, and remove the cartridge from the printer
- To redistribute the toner, gently rock the print cartridge from front to back. To prevent damage to the cartridge, hold it at each end. If the toner gets on your clothing, wipe it off with a dry cloth and then in cold water.
- Reinsert the print cartridge into the printer, and close the print cartridge door. If the print is still light, install a new HP Laserjet 1020 Plus toner cartridge referring the user manual.

A. The reason behind your toner cartridges not getting recognized by your PC can be either the PC cannot read the toner cartridges or the cartridges you installed in the machine are not compatible with your printer. Check that the correct cartridge is installed in the correct cartridge slot. However, it might happen that your old cartridges are dried out and need replacement. Try replacing the cartridges, if still, the problem does not solve contact the customer care service for help.
