Expert Verdict

Canon's new top-of-the-line all-in-one printer is the Canon Pixma MG7550. It can be cabled to a desktop or attached to a number of mobile devices and delivers five-color, duplex print on paper or CD/DVD blanks. It is designed for the home and photo consumer.

The Canon Pixma MG7550 has evolved from the initial 'lacquered box' style of the company's Pixma all-in-ones a few years ago, and is now available in black, white, and, most notably, burnt orange. The slanted front panel has replaced the entire scanner lid surround found on previous generations, but it still leaves enough space for the 8.8cm touchscreen and a number of dedicated touch buttons. The entire front panel folds down to become part of the output tray below the controls, and secondary support swings out from its front edge automatically. The third step, on the other hand, must be dragged out by hand and has no end-stop, resulting in pages being stacked in an untidy manner. Two low-profile paper trays are located below the output tray, one for 125 sheets of plain paper and the other for 20 picture blanks up to 13 x 18cm. It's a creative design, and there's a slot above that accepts a CD/DVD holder, which is kept in a clip beneath the photo tray.

There are six Canon Pixma MG7550 ink cartridges for this machine, including a photo black and photo grey. Page-to-page print speeds for the Pixma MG7550 are 15ppm mono and 10ppm color, according to Canon. We saw a speed of 10ppm for our five-page test piece, rising to 11.5ppm for the 20-page document in our tests, which include processing time for each print job. The overall performance was not affected by printing in draft mode. Canon's mono duplex speed, which has always been a concern for them due to the time it takes for the ink to dry between sides, was 3.8 sides per minute. A single-page color copy took 19 seconds, which is speedy, while 15 x 10cm photo prints took 54 seconds from a PC at best resolution and just over 30 seconds from an SD card and phones at regular quality.

The five individual Canon Pixma MG7550 ink cartridges generate excellent print quality, as is Canon's typical high standard. Even on ordinary paper, the text is sharp and thick, and the colors are smooth and vivid. The extra grey ink doesn't make a huge impact on photo quality - it's very subtle. Furthermore, Canon Pixma MG7550 ink cartridges are interchangeable, letting you swap out a depleted cartridge i.e, you only need to replace the Canon Pixma MG7550 ink cartridges that are out of ink. With fingertip control, the operation is straightforward. A big touch panel with an 8.8 cm color touch screen makes it quick and easy to explore menus, select functions, preview photographs, and use cloud services. Also installing Canon Pixma MG7550 ink cartridges is simple. NFC (near-field communication) wireless technology is also included in the printer. Touch the little cross at the end of the Pixma MG7550's control panel with an NFC-enabled tablet or smartphone, and the printer's details should be added to the device's print list.

The MG7550 features CD/DVD printing, twin paper trays, a larger touchscreen, and higher-resolution printing and copying than the Canon Pixma MG6450, which is roughly cheaper. The photo grey ink may be useful if you print a lot of photos, but you'll have to consider whether the extra features are worth the price premium. The Canon Pixma MG7550 is a stylish, high-end A4 all-in-one that's ideal for the home. It offers touchscreen control and simple access to consumables, and it can print from most devices. We can simply state that the cost of this printer is worth it, from text quality to print functions, including the Canon Pixma MG7550 ink cartridges.

How to improve poor prints of a Canon Pixma Printer?

There are more than one way to resolve the print quality issue and all depends on the cause of the issue. The major causes of printing issues include low/empty Canon Pixma MG7550 ink cartridges and the clogged printheads.

To resolve the quality problem you can follow the steps below.

Note that, in case the quality improves at any given point you can stop the process the step where you are, no need to proceed further.

Step one:Check Ink Cartridges

If you haven’t use your printer from a long time or your Canon Pixma MG7550 ink cartridges are at very low level, then you need to replace the cartridges in order to improve the print quality. The old and unused ink cartridges dry out and cause blurred prints.

You need to buy new Canon Pixma MG7550 ink cartridges. Make sure you keep the print on while you replace the cartridges and properly remove all the packaging material off the Canon Pixma MG7550 ink cartridges, before you install them.

Step two: Clean Printheads

Clogged print heads prevent the ink from evenly or properly spread on the paper and results in low-quality print. To clean the printhead you need to go the printer settings and command the printer for a clean up process.

The printer will automatically start cleaning the printheads and would ask you to run a quality check when the cycle is completed. You need to run the cleaning cycle at least 5 times before you get the actual results. If the print quality does not get better even after the 5th time, then you might need to change the printheads.

Step three:

If the print quality still remains low then it might be possible that the colour setting of the printer has been disturbed. Go to printer setting on your PC and set the image and text colours to their default setting.
