Brother MFC 8380DN Printer Review & Troubleshooting:

Brother MFC 8380DN is a robust-looking mono laser printer with print, scan, copy and fax functions. It fails to perform as a do-it-all printer as it lacks printing in colour mode and does not support wireless networking.

The device is not as heavy as it seems. The weight is approximately 15.5 kg with dimensions 15.4 x 17.4 x 17.4 inches (width x depth x height). The control panel is crowded with separate buttons for almost every task and a single-line, 16-character backlit LCD screen. A USB socket is provided on the left-hand side of the control panel to print directly from a USB drive. At the bottom of the front side, a 250-sheet paper tray is attached with a 50-sheet special media tray located just above. The Brother MFC 8380DN toner cartridges are installed inside the drum unit that works as two-part consumables. The printing speed of up to 30 ppm is adequate for small business users. The output quality is good enough to produce crisp and readable text and graphics. The initial price of the printer may seem high but the running cost compensates for it.

Advantages
  • Backlit LCD display
  • Good quality output
  • Excellent printing speed
  • Automatic duplexing facility
  • Duplex copying function
  • Secure print
  • 20-sheet ADF
  • Low running costs
Disadvantages
  • Prints only in black and white
  • No wireless connectivity
  • Not a heavy-duty MFC

  • TN-3280 Black toner cartridge
Conclusion

Brother MFC 8380DN intends to serve busy small offices with its high-speed printing and scanning capacity as well as the superior quality output. Even though its upfront cost may seem expensive, the high capacity Brother MFC 8380DN toner cartridges make it an affordable machine in the long run. The duplex scanning feature is an add-on for the users. On the whole, a good choice for small businesses with light to medium duty use.

How to clear paper jams inside the drum unit and Brother MFC 8380DN toner cartridge assembly for Brother printer?

Please follow the steps mentioned below to clear the paper jam:

Step 1: Press the front cover release button and open the cover.
Step 2: Take out the drum cover and toner cartridge assembly slowly.
Step 3: Push down the blue lock lever and take out the Brother MFC 8380DN toner cartridge from the drum unit. If there is any jammed paper inside the drum unit, take it out.
Step 4: Clear the jammed paper and put the toner cartridge back into the drum unit until you hear it lock into place. If you place it properly, the blue lock lever will lift automatically.
Step 5: Now, put the drum unit and Brother MFC 8380DN toner cartridge back into the machine.
Step 6: Close the front cover.
Note: If the error message still remains, open and close the front cover and fuser cover slowly to reset the printer.

While printing, there is an error message “Jam Tray 1” on the LCD display. How to clear the message?

Please consider the following steps to clear the paper jam:

  • Pull the paper tray out completely.
  • Pull out the jammed paper slowly with both your hands.
  • Ensure that the paper is below the maximum paper mark of the paper tray. While pressing the blue paper guide release lever, move smoothly the paper guides to fit the paper size. Verify that the paper guides are firmly in the slots.
  • Put the paper tray carefully back into the machine. Make sure to fan the paper in order to verify that no pages stick together, potentially causing paper jams.
Note: Don’t take out the standard paper tray while the paper is feeding on a lower paper tray. Else, it will cause a paper jam.
