The Canon Pixma IP2600 is an entry level inkjet printer aiming at the home and small office market. It desires to do this with the typical sleek Canon styling and good quality of output. It also has some features which were so far the preserve of costlier printers.
The printer in this device comes with a maximum resolution of 4800 x 1200 dpi, with the 2 Canon Pixma iP2600 Ink Cartridges churning out printouts at the speeds of 22 ppm in black and 17 ppm in colour. The print quality is good for the cost and the portraits and image prints gave consistent and evenly balanced prints. Canon has also done with this printer what most printer manufacturers don't do. They have quoted print speeds in both normal and draft modes. Usually, we don't see this as manufacturers quote speeds from the middle section of a long print job in draft mode.
The total media capacity of this printer is 100 pages with a single tray. The connectivity is through a single USB port with all other connectivity options missing. The printer comes with two Canon Pixma iP2600 Ink Cartridges, one black and one colour. This results in a lot of wastage as the colour cartridge needs to be replaced even if only one colour has finished and the other two colours remain.
The printer is a value for money unit, with a sleek silver and black design. It is lightweight and has a clean interface but all this come at the cost of functionality, as the only socket of USB is at the rear side of this printer. This means using this printer across multiple users can be bothersome.
Advantages:- Lightweight
- Good image and portrait prints
- Good value for money
- Sharp text printouts
- Despite being a photo printer, no PictBridge or memory card support
- Bright colours are not reproduced exactly, with a grey shade
- Too bright exterior needs constant cleaning
This is one of those printers who cut a lot of corners to give basic functionality. Fortunately, the print quality has not been tampered with and both text and images get good quality. The connectivity options though have faced the cut and only a USB connectivity is present. The speed can test your patience but that is not much of an issue for the intended low usage. At the low cost it retails for, this is a good option for homes and single person offices.
