How to solve print-related problems?

The Epson XP520 printer is an inkjet printer that offers good quality photo print as well as black and white prints. The printer uses Epson XP520 ink cartridges. This printer proves to be a great add-on within budget for offices and homes. Though you would experience print-related problems like lined prints or faded prints at times. The problems can be solved easily. Please refer to the steps below to solve print-related problems:

A. Lined Printouts

At times the printer may produce printouts with white or dark lines. This is commonly known as banding. To correct the problem, follow these steps:

  1. The print head nozzles may be clogged and need cleaning. You need to run a nozzle cleaning cycle if these are clogged.
  2. Check that you have loaded the printable side of the paper.
  3. Check that the paper type setting on your PC match the paper that you have loaded. If not then the printing will not be up to the mark.
  4. You might have turned on high speed printing in the printer software in your system. You need to turn it off.
  5. Check whether the print head is aligned. If not then align it.
  6. Replace the old ink cartridge with a new Epson XP520 ink cartridge. The previous cartridge might be damaged and therefore giving low quality printouts.

B. Faint Printouts

Uneven, faint and prints with gaps can be caused when the print head nozzles are not clean. There may be other causes for this. To check the low-quality printing, please follow these steps:

  1. The print head nozzles may be clogged. Run a test to check it. Take a test print to see if the print is clear.
  2. Replace the old cartridge with a new Epson XP520 ink cartridge as the older one may be low on ink.
  3. This problem is caused when the paper is damp or curled. Check if the paper is right and placed correctly.
  4. Clean the path of the paper. Dust particles and residue may cause gaps in printing.

Epson XP-520 Questions:

Q. What if I opened the Epson XP520 cartridges for ink substitution but got some crisis and have to leave the cartridges as it is. Also, would I be able to prevent the ink from drying up for a longer time? If yes then how?
A.
If you have removed an ink cartridge for later use, recap the cartridge using the cap that came with it to prevent the ink from drying out and to protect the surrounding area from getting smeared by ink. Store the Epson XP520 ink cartridges in the same environment as the product. Try to not leave the product with the ink cartridges removed for a long time. Otherwise, the ink remaining in the print head nozzles may dry out and you will not be able to print.

Q. Do you offer XL print cartridges for the Epson XP520 printer?
A.
Yes, we have the range of both original Epson 26XL as well as compatible Epson T26xl cartridges in all the four colours, that are black, cyan, magenta, yellow.

Q. How do I set my product's software to print only in Black or Grayscale from Windows?
A.
To change the settings, you need to open a document and then follow the steps below for your operating system to select black or grayscale in the printer driver.

  • Select the print command in your application
  • Make sure the product is selected
  • Click on properties or preferences option
Note: If you don't see these buttons, click on setup, printer options and, then click on properties or preferences button on the next screen.
  • Click the main tab and select black/grayscale as the colour setting. Click OK
To keep the print head clear and ready to print, the printer uses a small amount of ink from all the Epson XP520 ink cartridges whenever it prints. Even if you select black or grayscale, some colour of the ink is still being used. Also, note that if your product displays a message instructing you to replace an expended ink cartridge, you have to replace the Epson XP520 ink cartridges before you print.

Q. I have noticed colour differences in the printing of imported Word Art elements and an original text document through MS Word. Is it somehow due to the ink cartridges? If not then how can it be corrected?
A. This problem is not related to Epson XP520 ink cartridges in any way. It is related to the settings of your printer. The printer driver color management for any Epson machine is automatic. The setting remains this way until you change it. Photo Realistic mode is used for Word Art while Vivid mode is used for text and vectors. This cause differences in the output. You should remember that if you are printing using the Vivid mode then the color of the document will be in accordance to the graphics. If Photo Realistic mode is selected then the color of the document will be in accordance to the Word Art. If you have not select either of the two then you can check the RGB value for the image color and use that for the text or Word Art. The print result will be according to that value.

Q. Please guide me to use the print head alignment feature.
A. The print head alignment utility can be accessed easily through your printer software. To use it, you need to click on the Start button on the computer screen. Here select Settings option. The n go to the Printers sub-option. When you have selected your printer, right click on it and select the Properties option. Here select the Utility tab followed by Print Head Alignment and click on Ok. In the next dialogue box, select Next then Print. A dialogue box will appear that will guide you through the process of print head alignment. You will have to print a test page to see if the heads are aligned.

Q. If the ink levels of Epson XP520 ink cartridges need to be checked, how can it be done?
A. To check the ink levels of the Epson XP520 ink cartridges, you must have Epson Status Monitor Utility installed to your system. It is present in the CD provided with the printer. Once you have installed the Feature, you need to open the printer software by clicking on Start followed by Setting and Printers. Select the Epson XP520 printer from the given list. Now select Properties by right-clicking on the printer. In the Properties tab, select Utility. Here you will see the Epson Status Monitor option. Click on this. You will see the ink levels of the Epson XP520 ink cartridges that are being used by the printer.

Q. My printer is sounding like it is printing but when the paper comes out, there is no print on it. Does this mean that the ink cartridges are over?
A. No this does not point out to consumed ink cartridges. When the ink cartridges are over, the printer will display a message. The above problem occurs due to clogged printhead nozzles. This may happen if the printer is not used for a long time. The ink in the Epson XP520 ink cartridges clogs the nozzles. You must first print a nozzle check pattern to check if the nozzles are clogged. Then perform the head cleaning cycle. You should take test prints after every cycle to see if the problem has been corrected. Clogged print head nozzles usually require 3 to 4 cleaning cycles to clear the blockage. By now the nozzle check pattern will also appear to be correct. If by any chance the check pattern does not come out correct, then you should replace the old Epson XP520 ink cartridges with new ones.
