How to perform Print Head Cleaning for your Canon Pixma iP4500 printer?

If your printer causes printing issues like missing lines or white streaks, broken text while printing etc., then this may be a case of faulty or damaged Canon Pixma iP4500 ink cartridges or clogged printhead. Check the printhead and perform cleaning operation, this will unclog the nozzles and restore the print head condition.

Note:

Cleaning the Print Head causes ink to be absorbed in the ink absorber. Thus, this cleaning process will consume ink, so perform Print Head Cleaning only when necessary or the ink level in the cartridge is not low.

Follow the steps below to clean the printheads:

Step 1:

Make sure that the printer is on to perform the print head cleaning.

Step 2:

Press the Open button to open the Paper Output Tray and extend the Output Tray Extension.

  • Click Execute to perform the action
    • Print Head Cleaning starts only when the Power lamp starts flashing green
    • Do not perform any other operations until Print Head Cleaning finishes. This will take around 60 seconds to complete the process
  • Load a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the Rear Tray or Cassette and check by printing on it
  • Press the Paper Feed Switch to select the paper source in which you loaded the paper
  • Confirm the displayed message and click Print Check Pattern

Q. I own a Canon Pixma iP4500 printer. I bought it for photo printing for which it works great. But I need to print an official document for my work. Can I only print in black and white instead of colour?
A. Yes, your printer can print only in black and white too. Even if you do not do anything and directly print that document it will come out in B&W. However, it is suggested to turn the printer settings for Grayscale printing to save the inks in other colour Canon Pixma iP4500 ink cartridges.

Here is what you need to do to adjust the printing settings for your printer:

Windows users:
Select one of the following tabs on your PC:

  • [Quick setup]
  • [Main] tab of the [Printing Preferences] menu
  • Display the [printer properties] or [print options] during the print process

From any of these tabs you can easily find the Grayscale printing mode. Select that and continue with printing your document.

Mac users:

  • Select the [Quality & Media] from the pop-up menu on the Print Dialog and then select [Grayscale Printing] check box.

Q. Hi, why cant I print the end of my files? I have a Canon iP4500 printer and it has print more than half of the print job I commanded but now it has stopped printing and I am left with partially completed work. Is it the issue of the Canon Pixma iP4500 ink cartridges or there is some other problem? Can you help?
A. As per the information you provided, it is clearly not an issue of Canon Pixma iP4500 ink cartridges. In fact, there can be two other reasons for the Canon Pixma printer to stop its printing jobs right before the end.

  1. Size of the print data is extremely large (This issue usually occurs when you are using a Windows PC)
Solution: To resolve this problem you need to click Print Options on the Page Setup sheet. Then, select the Reduce spool data size check box in the displayed dialog. Try printing again
  2. Insufficient space on your computer's hard disk
When there is no space on the hard disk of your device it can not provide the printer complete data that need to be printed.
Solution: Delete unnecessary files to free disk space.

Q. It looks like my Canon Pixma iP4500 printer’s Waste Ink Absorber is full. What can be done?
A. The purpose of the waste ink absorber of your printer is to safely collect any waste ink expelled during cleaning of the print head and borderless printing on photo printers.

Over the time this waste ink tank get full and will need to be replaced. The replacement of the waste ink tanks is not as simple as replacing the Canon Pixma iP4500 ink cartridges. As this process can lead to ink leakage which can cause damage to the printer, we suggest you call the Canon authorised repair centre and get someone to do the job for you.

Q. I am seeing streaks and uneven printing on the trailing edge of the paper when I print from my Canon iP4500 printer. Are my Canon Pixma iP4500 ink cartridges faulty or is it the papers?
A. Issues like streaks or uneven prints at the edge of the paper are not caused due to faulty Canon Pixma iP4500 ink cartridges. Majorly, this happens when you print outside the recommended print area.

To improve the print quality and remove such streaks at edges you can try the combination below on your printer’s setting:

  • Change the Media Type to “Photo Paper Pro PR-101"
  • Change Print Quality to High or Fine

Save these settings and try printing again.
