Print quality problems associated with light print, toner specks etc

If you get light print

• Check the toner cartridges are installed correctly.

The 4 high-yield compatible HP CE410X has a yield of 4000 pages which generally allows longer intervals in between replacements. This three colours CE411A, CE412A and CE413A cartridges have smaller yields of 2600 pages but this does not necessarily mean shorted intervals as the average coverage printed content tends to use more black.

Refilling Instructions for HP 305A toners

How to refill HP toner cartridges:

1. Turn on melting tool and wait 5 minutes to reach operating temperature.
2. Re-fit the orange OPC drum protector if you’ve got one handy If not take care not to touch or handle the pale blue OPC cylinder. Do not rest the cartridge on the pale blue OPC cylinder.
3. Find position for refill hole.
4. Melt your hole. Press lightly. If the tool is hot and the hole is just in right position it will be made easily.
5. Before opening toner bottle shake vigorously for 5 seconds.
6. Open toner bottle and screw on spout.
7. To avoid leakage of microfine toner wrap any kind of tape around join between spout and bottle: sellotape, brown parcel tape, gaffa tape etc.
8. Hold the cartridge nearly upright with one hand. Use the other hand for the bottle.
9. Jam spout into cartridge and keeping the spout jammed in with distinct pressure, lean cartridge back until bottle is near vertical.
10. Wait for a count of 5 for toner to flow in.
11. Return cartridge to approx. 45 degree angle and keeping spout in the hole rotate the bottle down to below horizontal. Introductory cartridges only: take a look inside the hole. If you can see toner level is close to the hole then stop otherwise continue if filling it some more.
12. Put your finger over the end of spout and give the bottle another shake. Repeat shaking and pour the toner.
13. Use the Sponge provided to clean up any residue toner around the hole.
14. Introductory cartridge only:
    • Use scissors to trim off part of the lip of the plug
    • Fill groove of plug with sealant all the way round
    • Engage groove of plug with inner edge of melted hole in one place. Squeeze the plug to engage more of the groove.
    • Wipe off excess silicon glue or sealant but leave plenty under the plug’s flange.
    • Gently shake the cartridge over a blank sheet of white paper to check for any toner leaks from the sealed hole. Leave cartridge overnight to dry if there are large amounts of silicon glue or sealant needed for an effective seal.
15. Bought cartridge only: There’s no need to trim lip of plug. Just fill groove with silicon glue or sealant. Fit plug by engaging groove with inner edge melted hole.
