How to resolve errors which are displayed on the Brother HL-L2310D printer’s touch screen panel?

Errors are displayed by the printer due to various reasons. Some of the most common errors and their solutions are highlighted in the following steps:

Step 1: Drum error (corona wire error) in the control panel:
This error shows up in the printer’s control panel and it indicates that the machine’s corona wire needs to be cleaned. Follow these steps to clean the machine’s corona wire:

• Remove the machine’s front cover and bring out the Brother HL-L2310D toner cartridge and drum unit from the machine.
• Slide the green tab on the leftmost corner of the drum unit from left to right and vice versa several times to clean the corona wire. Important - Always align the green tab’s arrow mark to its home position’s arrow mark because failing to do so will lead to the appearance of vertical stripes on the output.
• Place the drum unit and toner cartridges on their designated slots in the machine.
• Enclose the machine with its front cover.

Step 2: Drum error (Replacing the drum unit):
This error shows up in the printer’s status monitor as “replace drum”. As the name suggests, it indicates that the drum unit which contains Brother HL-L2310D toner cartridge of supported colours, needs to be replaced. Several causes that lead to the replacement of the drum unit are - damage to the drum, drum’s declining shelf life & electrical short circuit etc. The drum unit is replaced in the following two phases:

1. Replacing the drum unit:
   • Turn on the Brother machine and open its front cover.
   • Carefully remove the Brother HL-L2310D toner cartridges and drum unit from the machine.
   • Gently press the green lock lever and remove the toner cartridge from the drum unit.
   • Remove the new drum unit’s package and place the toner cartridge firmly back in its designated slot in the new drum unit.
   • Re-insert both the drum unit and the toner cartridge into the machine.
   • Close the machine’s front cover.


2. Resetting the drum counter:
The drum counter is a component used by the drum unit to track toner usage over a stack of printed papers. It needs to be reset after replacing the drum unit. Go through the following steps to reset the drum counter:
• Check whether the machine is turned on or not. If not, then turn it on.
• Open the machine’s front cover.
• Press the Go button and hold it for four seconds until all of the machine’s LEDs start shining. Release the Go button after all the LEDs are lit up.
• Turn off the drum unit’s LED and close the machine’s front cover.
