What to do when your Brother HL2240 printer gives poor or curled printouts?
If you have a print quality problem, like receiving faded or curled printouts. Then,
it may be because of using low quality or old Brother HL2240 toner cartridges. To get rid of such issues print a test page first. If the printout looks good, then the problem is probably not with the machine. Check the interface cable or try the machine on another computer. If the problem still not resolved, follow the points below to resolve them.
- Take out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly. Hold the assembly level with both hands and gently shake it from side to side several times to spread the toner evenly inside the cartridge
- If the LEDs indicate Replace Toner(Continue mode), put in a new Brother HL2240 toner cartridges. For replacing the cartridges refer user manual
- Check the machine’s environment conditions such as humidity, high temperatures, and so on, which may result in print fault
- If the page print is too light, toner save mode may be on. Turn off the toner save mode in advanced tab (For Windows) or Basic tab of print settings (For Macintosh) of the driver

- Check the paper type and quality. High temperatures and humidity will cause the paper to curl. See acceptable paper and other print media in manual
- If you do not use the machine often, the paper may be in the paper tray for so long. Turn over the stack of paper in the paper tray. Also, fan the paper stack and then rotate the paper 180 in the paper tray
- Open the back cover (face-up output tray) to let the printed paper out on the face-up output tray
- Choose reduce paper curl mode in the printer driver when you do not use the recommended paper or the quality of paper is not good. Refer manual to see how to improve the print output for other print options (For Windows®) or (For Macintosh)
