Expert Verdict
Though both HP and Brother have been fighting over to be in the lead as they both almost make the same budget printers. However, as the Brother printer manages to print faster at better HP Laserjet P1005 toner cartridges costs, HP's efforts are still insufficient. Still, HP has made good efforts by designing the HP Laserjet P1005 printer, be it print, copy or scan, this printer has it all. Simplicity is the key in mono laser printers and the HP Laserjet P1005 certainly succeeds with this unit. The printer's footprint is small even for a mono laser printer, and it is easy to fit in busy spaces. However, there is a trade-off, where Brother's HL-2140 allows for 250 pages in a closable paper tray, the P1005 fits relatively only 150 pages in a tray that too must remain open during use.
Its connection is limited to USB 2.0 only. It would have been better if it came with an Ethernet connection for the home and small office networking, and the printer's initial price would certainly justify its exclusion. However, given that the P1005 is pitted squarely against the HL-2140, we're not surprised that Ethernet connectivity is reserved for a higher and expensive model.
Also, the toner HP Laserjet P1005 toner cartridge replacement is simple and easy, you have to follow almost the same method as the other general printers such as Canon's Laser Shot LBP 3100B. You can access the HP Laserjet P1005 toner cartridges by lifting up the paper output tray and you can insert and remove the toners in the same way. The P1005 printer will run at an average of 6c per page, which is slightly more expensive than the HL-2140 which runs at 4.8c per page but the P1005 is still cost-effective.
Speed is quite an issue with this printer, as this unit only manages to provide a speed of 15 pages per minute. Also, this printer lacks 300dpi draft mode, which is a bit disappointing as this draft mode is found in most laser printers. Though the speed is enough for 600dpi printing, this machine doesn’t cater for that situation where speed takes priority over quality. Thankfully, printing at 1200 dpi doesn’t slow your printer that much. It provides prints at the speed of 12 pages per minute.
Thanks to HP Laserjet P1005 toner cartridges, the P1005 does provide excellent quality text. The printed text is clean with no flaws, though it is comparatively bolder than the HL-2140, this makes text slightly fuzzier in dense documents. If we compare to Brother, Brother’s print quality is quite better, however, both are more than adequate for standard use. This printer is based on laser monochrome printing technology and also has a wired technology that lets you use a USB port for connectivity. As this printer is a monochrome printer, it only uses a single HP Laserjet P1005 toner cartridge with black colour and using HP ink types. This is a printer that offers efficient HP Laserjet P1005 toner cartridges that can print up to 3000 pages.
To use this printer, firstly you will need to have the software that can be downloaded from the official website or even using the CD drive that includes in the box when you buy the printer. The installation process is quite easy, you only need to make sure that your driver software is supportable with your computer. When its installation process is starting, it is easy to wait for it until the installation process is done. You can use it after it all finished and make sure you connect it with the USB cable. For being your home printer, this 4 HP Laserjet P1005 toner cartridges printer is a good choice where you need monochrome printing works for your documents.

Many problems occur while printing with old HP Laserjet P1005 toner cartridges. Issues like faded prints, loose toner or wavy printouts mostly appear when media might be there in the input tray for too long or not loaded properly. Such issues are so common and could be solved using following steps:
Curl or wave- Check the media type and quality. Both high temperature and humidity cause media to curl. This generates wavy prints. Make sure the print media you are using is high quality.
- The media might have been in the input tray for too long. Turn over the stack of media in the tray. Also, try rotating the media 180° in the input tray.
- The fuser temperature might be too high. In your printer driver, make sure the appropriate media type is selected. If the problem persists, select a media type that uses a lower fuser temperature, such as transparencies or light media.
- The faded prints might occur if the HP Laserjet P1005 toner cartridges is nearing the end of its life.
- The media might not meet Hewlett-Packard's media specifications (for example, the media is too moist or too rough).
- If the whole page is light, the print density adjustment is too light or EconoMode might be turned on. Adjust the print density, and disable EconoMode in the printer Properties.
