Samsung has been making small-format personal laser printers for a while now, but the Samsung ML-2165w is probably the most compact one amongst them. With measures of 331 x 215 x 178mm, it's the same size as a toaster, however, just a little wider. It is colored in hues of mid and light grey, with no holes or apertures for dust or spills to enter when the printer is closed. The starter package of the primer comes with CD guides, Samsung ML-2165w Toner cartridges etc. The machine is quite tidy, though there is no cover for the paper stack, so you'll have to close it when not in use. By any chance if you forget to open the tray before printing, paper will feed through the gap at the left hinges, rather than jamming inside the printer.

A small control panel with two LEDs and two lit buttons is located to the right of the paper output slot. The front button switches on and off the printer, but the back one offers a variety of functions. It serves as a single-press WPS connection during setup and works perfectly in linking straight to your WPS-enabled wireless router, though this may become problematic if there are multiple networks within range. It isn't speedy, either, requiring between 1:36 and 2:43 to print A4 pages. The problem appeared to be with the pace of data transfer rather than with the printer itself, which processed the page at the same rate as in our earlier testing.

Greyscales are also clear, with less banding than we've seen on some far more costly printers and enough grey variance to discern a wide range of colours. Even photographs appear to be reasonable, while darker colours tend to fade to black and lose detail.

The printer's only consumable is a single drum and Samsung ML-2165w Toner cartridge. If you're looking for a small, personal laser printer, the Samsung ML-2165W fits the bill. It has a small footprint, but it's not short on features. It's fast, prints clear text and pictures, and can even print directly from phones and tablets. Consumables aren't even outrageously priced.

How to run a product check for Samsung ML-2165w printer?

Running a product check ensures that if the product is operating properly or not.

• Detach any interface cables connected to your product.
