Canon Pixma MG5350 Printer Review & Troubleshoot:

Canon Pixma MG5350 is a good mid range multi function device from Canon. It gives good quality prints and scans well.

With a maximum print resolution of 9600 x 2400 dpi, Canon Pixma MG5350 gives very good prints with both monochrome and coloured printouts coming out crisp and clear. The speed for a mono print is 13 ppm and that of coloured is 10 ppm, the duplex printing capability adding to the feature list. There are a total of 4 cartridges, with black as pigment and colour cartridges as dye based. The Canon Pixma MG5350 ink cartridges are good enough for 1000 prints, making prints a little expensive, which is easily resolvable by compatible cartridges. The printer comes with a host of connectivity options, from the usual USB to WiFi, to slots for various SD cards and connectivity for PictBridge, enabling printing of photos directly from camera. It is slightly heavy and has a open input tray with 300 paper capacity.

A good feature of Canon Pixma MG5350 is the automatic print head alignment which saves a lot on service costs. Another standout feature is the ability to print directly from the cloud, from files stored on Canon’s iMage gateway. The 3 inch screen along with the buttons on panel, gives robust functionality upfront, though getting used to all functions will take some time. It gives a lot of features to adjust image and produce stellar outputs.

Advantages:
  • Very good black and photo prints
  • Automatic print head alignment
  • Fast speeds
  • Direct CD/DVD printing
  • PictBridge port
  • Direct printing
Disadvantages:
  • High running costs (can be reduced by compatible Canon Pixma MG5350 ink cartridges)
  • Touch capable but no touchscreen
Conclusion:

This multi function device excels at both print and scanning functions giving great quality outputs. The slow speeds would mean the usage will be restricted to homes, but if the requirements are not too high it will serve well as an office printer too.

How to replace ink tanks in a Canon Pixma MG5350 printer?

To replace the Canon Pixma MG5350 ink cartridges, follow the steps below:

Caution:
  1. Never leave the ink tanks unattended for long. Unpack the new cartridges only when you are about to replace them, similarly do not take the old cartridges out until you are ready with new ones to replace immediately. Leaving the cartridge slots empty and the new cartridge open can dry the print heads and and the machine may not operate properly.
  2. Always use a new Canon Pixma MG5350 ink cartridge for replacement, installing a previously used ink tank might cause the nozzles to clog.
Installation:
  1. Keep the printer power on and gently open the paper output tray.
  2. Lift the scanning unit / cover up as wide as it can go.
  3. When you open the scanning unit the printheads would automatically move to the replacement position.
In case the printheads do not move to the desired position Don’t hold the print head holder to stop or move it forcibly. Do not touch the print head holder until it stops completely.
  4. The empty cartridge can be detect by the ink lamps in front of them. Remove the ink tank which has fast flashing lamp in front. To remove the cartridge by pressing the tab (Do not touch the print head lock lever)
  5. Replace each empty cartridge one by one. Do not remove all the cartridges at once
  6. Prepare the new Canon Pixma MG5350 ink cartridge. Remove the packaging material and the seal of the cartridge
  7. Match the colour label on the cartridge slot with the ink tank. Make sure to install right colour cartridge in the slot, else the printer won’t work
  8. Place the cartridge inside the cartridge slot while keeping the ink head of the cartridge downwards. Push the cartridge in gently until you hear a ‘click’ sound to confirm the ink tank is locked in properly
  9. Do the same with each cartridge that needs to be replaced
  10. Close the cartridge access door. Put the scanner unit down
  11. Wait for printer to process the new cartridges. When the printer is ready the ink lights would stop flashing and printer would stop making processing sound
