A. Restarting your computer may solve various print-related issues. If there are any unnecessary print jobs, follow the procedure below to delete them.

• Open the printer properties dialog box. Refer to the on-screen user manual for more instructions
• Click on the maintenance tab and then view the printer status. The Canon status monitor will be displayed
• Click on display the print queue and select cancel all documents on the printer menu
• When the confirmation message is displayed on the LCD screen, click Yes. The selected print jobs will be deleted

Q. What could be the issue with the printer, if there is no ink on the paper?

• Whenever you will make an attempt to install the printer on a Mac OS a message box will appear - “The software can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer"
• Press the control key and while pressing it click the applicable installation package file. A menu dropdown will open there. Select “Open”
• Another message box would appear on the screen stating - "The software is from an unidentified developer. Are you sure you want to open it?". Select “Open”.
• The installer will be launched

Q. Whenever I print any picture from my Canon Pixma IP1800 printer some streaks appear on the trailing edge of the printouts. Are my Canon Pixma IP1800 ink cartridges faulty or the printer is damaged?

When the streaks or uneven prints appear on the trailing edge of printouts, it suggests that you are printing outside the recommended print area of the sheet. Q. I use a Canon Pixma iP1800 printer for photo printing. I just want to know if it is possible to print only in black and white to reduce the consumption of my colour Canon Pixma iP1800 ink cartridges? Can you tell me what can be done?
A. Yes, If you set the printing mode of your Canon printer to “GrayScale” it would produce only black and white printouts.

Follow the steps below for Windows PC:

• Go to Quick setup or “Main” tab of printing preferences window
• Or, display the [printer properties] or just click on the [print options] during the print process
• Select GrayScale printing mode there and click “Ok”

On Mac OS:

• Select [Quality & Media] from the pop-up menu on the Print Dialog and select the [Grayscale Printing] check box.

Once you have selected the Grayscale mode you will be able to produce prints in black and white colour. However, note that using a grayscale mode would not prevent the printer to use the mixture of other Canon Pixma iP1800 ink cartridges. You should know that even if you are printing just texts using black tanks, the printer would still use a combination of other colour Canon Pixma iP1800 ink cartridges to produce “composite” black for images and graphics.

Thus it would be hard to say how much amount of colour ink you would be able to save even after printing black and white. The number of inks used in this setting is dependent on a number of different factors. Which includes the model of your printer, the type of prints you are producing (photo, graphics or text), the type of media you are printing onto and the quality setting you have selected within the driver.

So the conclusion is, the print might appear as a black/monochrome print but still the other Canon Pixma iP1800 ink cartridges would be used in the process. Also, it is not possible to print photos and graphics only with the black ink.
