Canon Pixma MP460 Printer Review & Troubleshooting:

The Canon Pixma MP460 is an updated version of Canon Pixma MP450. The upgrade of this photo-centric printer did not increase the cost side. Even many of the features remain same in this upgrade, but Canon enhanced its performance with advanced features like new dual colour gamut technology and direct printing. The printer uses black and tri-colour Canon PIXMA MP460 ink cartridges. Plus, it boasts a colour bubble jet technology as its printing method.

The printer has a sleek, slanted design featuring rounded corners and a space-saving low profile. The control panel of the device is located as a thick rounded plate coming out from the top front. It contains a small colour LCD display along with an array of navigation and function buttons.

The device weighs 15.7kg and measures 17.5 x 16.5 x 7.3 inches. It has a 48-bit CIS scanner on the top. The flatbed copier of the machine is integrated with auto exposure, borderless, and image repeat features. Other advanced features of the device include media card slots, PictBridge, and IrDA 1.2 port for wireless printing.

The printing speed of the device ranges from 22 ppm for monochrome to 17 ppm for colour files. Which makes it a fast all-in-one printer in compare to the other entry level MFPs in the market. All in all, the device is a great pick at this price range, except for its tri-colour Canon Pixma MP460 ink cartridges which increase the running cost of the printer.

Advantages:
  • Media card slots, PictBridge, and IrDA 1.2 port to enable wireless printing
  • Low cost
  • Colour bubble jet printing technology
  • Direct printing
  • Auto exposure, borderless, and image repeat feature
Disadvantages:
  • Colour handling issues with the scanner
  • Low paper storage capacity
  • A bit larger and heavier
  • Limited to USB interface
Conclusion:

The Canon Pixma MP460 printer is a low-cost all-in-one printer with many advanced features like PictBridge and IrDA port, direct printing, borderless printing, etc. The device can be a good addition to home and small offices. However, the limited interface, large footprint, and low paper handling capacity might not make it suitable for large workgroups.

Cartridge Requirements:

The replacement Canon Pixma MP460 ink cartridges are:

  • Canon PG40 black ink cartridge
  • Canon CL41 colour ink cartridge
How to fix the error messages displayed on the LCD screen?

If an error message is displayed on the LCD, then the corresponding countermeasure should be taken as described below.

1. No paper detected.

  • If printing is not finished yet, just press [OK] on the machine to continue printing in the "no ink" state
  • Replace the FINE Cartridges with the new one as soon as possible after printing finishes. The machine may get damaged if printing is continued under the ink out condition
4. The following ink cartridge cannot be recognized.

  • Install the appropriate FINE cartridge. If lines are misaligned or the resulting output is not satisfactory, carry out the cartridge alignment

6. Incompatible device detected.
  • Depending on the model or brand of your device, you have to select a print mode compliant with PictBridge before connecting the device and also turn ON the device or manually select play mode after connecting the device to the machine. Perform the necessary operations according to the instruction manual supplied with your device. If still error is not resolved, there is a possibility that the used digital camera or digital video camcorder is not supported by this machine. So use those that are compatible with the machine
  • Make sure that all the required boxes on the head alignment sheet are filled in. The sheet should be set in the correct position and orientation on the platen glass
7. The following ink may have run out.

The FINE cartridge may have previously been used, or the ink may have run out. The function used for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled, as the remaining ink level cannot be correctly detected. In order to obtain optimum qualities, it is recommended to use only high-quality Canon cartridges.

Are you facing any issues while using your Canon Pixma MP460 printer and the Canon Pixma MP460 Ink Cartridges? Here are the solutions for some the issues that you might face.

Q. Hi, today while using my Canon Pixma MP460 printer I saw green and orange lights flashing alternatively. Why is it happening?
A. The green light is the power button of your printer and orange light is an alarm. If you find them flashing alternatively, then quickly disconnect the USB cable or USB hub connected to your machine and turn off your machine. Unplug the printer from the power supply socket for some time. Then plug back the printer and turn it on. This will resolve the issue. In case the problem continues then contact the Canon service provider.

Q. Hi, I was taking print outs of several important documents for a long time from my Canon Pixma MP460 printer and the printing stopped suddenly. Did I over strain the machine? Should I call Canon support?
A. In case the media type is selected properly and you have enough Canon Pixma MP460 Ink Cartridges left to carry out the printing task, the only problem might be the overheating of Canon Pixma MP460 Ink Cartridges. The print task stopped just to protect the cartridges from getting damaged. The printing will be stopped for some time and will be resumed by itself. To avoid such issues it is better to take few prints at a time.

Q. Till yesterday my Canon Pixma MP460 printer was working properly. Today while taking a print, I saw that the printouts were messed up. What could be the reason?
A. This might have caused because your printer is not clean from inside. To clean the interior of your machine turn on your machine and remove the papers from the auto feeder. Then place an A4 sheet in a landscape orientation and also fold it into half. Unfold the paper and feed it into the paper feeder. Select the Bottom plate cleaning under the Maintenance tab and select OK. This will help you clean the inside plates. Repeat the process till you get a clean sheet. You can also clean the inside parts using a clean swab.

Q. I brought a new Canon Pixma MP460 printer and the language that is displayed on the screen is not recognizable. How do I change the language?
A. To select the language that you want to be displayed press Copy and then Menu. Then press the right arrow and press OK again press the right arrow and press OK. Then three times press the downward arrow and press OK. You can see the Language Selection screen. Now using the up-down arrows you can select the desired language and finally press OK.

Q. I am not able to take a print using Bluetooth device from my Canon Pixma MP460 printer. What should I do?
A. In case you are using an infrared system like a mobile phone, make sure that the communication ports of the mobile phone and the printer are facing each other and are at a proper angle and distance. It will be good if the mobile phone is placed within 20 cms from your printer. In case another infrared device is working simultaneously, it will cause interruption and the printing will not take place. Make sure that no other phones are working while you take a print.

Q. Today while I was doing a printing task with my Canon Pixma MP460 printer, the printing stopped in between and the alarm lights started flashing with some error codes. I checked the Canon Pixma MP460 Ink Cartridges, they were properly placed and are sufficient enough as I installed it a few months back. Even the paper is not jammed. Then why is this happening?
A. Since your Canon Pixma MP460 Ink Cartridges are on place and sufficient enough, the only reason why this might be happening is due to some internal issue caused due to any microelectronic damage which has no relationship with Canon Pixma MP460 Ink Cartridges refilling. It might have caused due to excessive usage. The only option is to replace these damaged cartridges.
