HP Laserjet P1006 Printer Review & Troubleshoot:

Expert Verdict

According to the HP company, HP’s new LaserJet P1006 is the smallest laser printer HP has ever manufactured and it surely has compact lines. Seeing the design of the printer, it looks like that this printer is only designed for occasional uses. With one HP Laserjet P1006 Toner Cartridge, this printer has impressively discrete dimensions when the input and output tray is folded closed. The input tray folds up on the front of the printer whereas the output tray folds over the top of the printer. With both the trays in their open positions, the printer looks quite bigger than when closed. Also, this printer lacks cover to protect the 150 sheets of paper in the input tray. The lack of this feature can cause fill dust and debris in the machine.

Even though there is only a single HP Laserjet P1006 Toner Cartridge in this printer, it is good enough to print on 15,00 pages. This HP Laserjet P1006 Toner Cartridge is responsible for producing monochrome output. There is a special-purpose feed above the paper feed tray that can take up to 10 sheets at a time. Moreover, on the top surface of the printer, there is a very simple control panel that has power along with data lights and a single button to cancel the printing jobs. At the back of the cover, there is the main socket and a USB 2.0 port, though it would be a lot better if the USB socket was placed a little lower to make the cable look less messy.

Kudos to HP for not only introducing the Getting Started Guide on CD but also putting additional efforts into creating an animated installation video. This animated video has everything you need to know from packing tapes, installing the HP Laserjet P1006 Toner Cartridge, to loading the paper into the tray. What’s more interesting is it automatically stops at each stage so that you can follow the instructions. Provided easy and simpler steps, it’s hard to see anybody failing at installing the printer successfully.

One more thing which seemed impressive is that it already comes with the HP Laserjet P1006 Toner Cartridge arranged in place, however, you will need to pull them out to remove the seal tape and spacer. Other than this all you need to do is to install the software and connect the USB cable when instructed. This printer does not come with additional software, however, all your basic requirements will be covered including multiple pages per sheet, watermarks and manual duplexing.

Talking about the speeds, HP claims to have a speed of 16 ppm and it does print five-page documents in 25-27 seconds. The text and graphic page also print at a quite fast speed such as 20-22 seconds. Printed photos are very detailed on either resolution - low and higher one. The photos come out with no banding and no sign of grains, which is a bit unusual for a laser printer. Though tints are a little light and may need to adjust down for natural results.

Business graphics are also well-produced, with a good range of grayscale featuring multiple colours. The printed text is sharp and well-formed and is good enough for external documents, as well as those used within your home or office. Overall, the print quality is as good as from any laser printer in this price range, and is better than many, while the combined photoconductor and HP Laserjet P1006 Toner Cartridge, meaning you will get a new print engine every time you change it.

Concluding, if you are looking for a personal laser printer HP Laserjet P1006 is a good and simple machine, which does not cost too much to run and produces very excellent output. What most people look for in a mono machine is print quality and HP has hit it right on the nail with this machine.

Review

The HP Laserjet printer is an attractive choice as a personal monochrome laser. It is small as well as sufficiently light-weighted to be perfect for home offices or on the desktop in a large company. It weighs 6.4 kg and has a fast speed of 16ppm so it won't let you wait for a long time for most print jobs. There is just one HP Laserjet P1006 Toner Cartridge in the HP Laserjet printer with an integrated photoconductor drum and enough toner for around 1,500 pages.

The installation steps themselves are very easy and simple - Removing the packaging material, loading the paper, letting the software install and plugging a USB cable when the software tells you to do so.

Its output quality is good as expected for business, personal use and better than almost any other inkjet printer. It has a main input tray sheet capacity of about 150 sheets. Photos themselves are very detailed. At FastRes 600 printing resolution, it provides 600 dpi effective output quality while at FastRes 1200 it provides 1200 dpi output quality. Besides this when used EconoMode for printing resolution, it does give a smoother result using a very small amount of toner.
