Step 1: Make sure that the toner cartridges are installed properly.
Step 2: Wipe the HP LaserJet Pro M402d toner cartridge head.
- Turn on the printer and remove all the installed toner cartridges.
- Rub the metal contact points on the toner cartridge, with a cotton swab.
- Now, turn off the printer and remove the power cable.
- Reconnect the power cable and then, restart the printer.

Step 3: Manually reset the toner counter.
- Turn on the HP printer and open the toner access area.
