  4. Remove the old/emptied toner cartridge from the printer and place it in the new cartridge’s cover for recycling.
  5. Now locate the orange tab on the toner and remove the sealing tape.
  6. Gently shake the cartridge for an even distribution of the toner.
  7. Place these tab and tap into the cartridge bag for returning them for recycling.
  8. Now align the HP C7115A laser toner with the tracks/image provided on the slot and place the toner in it.
  9. Push the toner inside until it is firmly seated.
  10. Close the top cover and the scanner back and start the printer.

After this, the printer should start working fine. However, if any message appears on your PC or the control panel display screen, saying that the ink cartridge is not recognized try the following solutions:

  1. Check if you have the right compatible HP 15A toner cartridge. It may fit in the printer properly but might not be the correct cartridge for your printer.
  2. Check our list below to find all the printer models that work with compatible this HP toner.
  3. If it is the right cartridge, take it out and wipe its ‘chip’ with a clean dry soft cloth. The chip is a copper area on the cartridge which stores its information. A buildup of static on the chip may prevent the printer from reading the information.
  4. Reinstall the toner cartridge and make sure it makes a ‘click’ sound while insertion. It would ensure that the cartridge has been placed properly.

Instructions for recycling the HP C7115A laser toner used in the HP 1200 series of laser printers.

This toner looks like a small version of the 96A toner cartridge. In this toner cartridge, there are pins holding the two halves together. Once you get it apart, it is simple to recycle.

  1. There are two methods to remove the pins. The removal process involves some destruction of the cartridge shell.

Method - 1: Push the pins in carefully. For some instant, it will cause some damage and it is difficult for the user to control the damage. The user needs to push the pins in just far enough so that the two halves come apart. Be careful if you push pins in too far, pins will break the outside of the shell and the PCR holder also may be damaged.

Method - 2: In this method, on each side of the HP 15A toner cartridge, a shallow hole is drilled. With the help of Allen wrench push the pins out. Like the above method, this 2nd method also causes the damage but the user can control how much damage there will be. The benefit of this method is that it will not damage the PCR holder.
  2. Regardless of which method you choose, the holes should be sealed with black silicon.
  3. Now remove the drum end cap and screw as well.
  4. Remove the drum unit. A user may have noted that there is a curved plastic piece around the drum. Due to this plastic piece, the drum unit can not be removed before the two halves are separated.
  5. In the next step, a user needs to remove the PCR and clean it with the standard PCR cleaner.
  6. Unscrew the wiper blade.
  7. Now clean the waste toner after unscrewing wiper blade.
  8. Reinstall the wiper blade, PCR, drum, and end cap.
  9. Remove the end cap on the right side of the HP C7115A laser toner hopper.
  10. Remove the white gears. These gears are loose and will fall off if not removed.
  11. Remove the end cap on the left side of the hopper. This is the side which houses the magnetic roller contacts. Clean both contacts with a cotton swab and alcohol.
  12. Remove the magnetic roller.
  13. Remove the doctor blade.
  14. Once a seal becomes available, it should be placed on top of the silver areas. The seal tab fits through the right side of the cartridge (fill plug side). Note that it has a rubber gasket that seals off the opening. This is a unique feature of this HP 15A toner cartridge. Be careful not to tear the gasket when installing a seal.
  15. Fill the toner cartridge through the mag roller opening with 190 grams of 1200 toner. You can fill through the fill hole, but until there is a seal available, you must hold the mag roller assembly in place - this is a tricky thing to do.
Reassemble the toner hopper section. Install the left side first. Align the keyed magnet into the keyed slot.
  16. Fill or patch any holes in the waste chamber with black silicon and if black is not available in your area, clear is fine; just make sure it is the flexible type.

If you are intending to buy replacement ink and toner cartridges, you should also think about what you are going to do with the empty cartridges. There are millions of ink and toner cartridges used each year and statistics suggest that 95% of them go to landfill.

What happens when your print cartridge runs out the toner? Are you planning to through the empty toner cartridge into the bin? Or looking for the ways to dispose of it correctly?

Here are some statistics taken from the environmental surveys carried out in the United States.
  1. It can take about 5 liters of oil to produce a new laser toner cartridge.
  2. In the USA, it is estimated that 8 ink cartridges are thrown away every second.
  3. In North America, estimates put the number of ink and toner cartridges discarded in Landfill each year at around 350 million.
  4. A typical laser toner cartridge will take up to 400 years to decompose in the earth.
These are shocking statistics, but what can we do about it in Ireland?

Here are some ways that help us to dispose of the empty ink and toner correctly.
  1. Do not allow this material to drain into sewers/water supplies.
  2. HP's Planet Partners (trademark) supplies recycling program enables simple, convenient recycling of HP original inkjet and LaserJet supplies.
  3. Instead of throwing empty HP C7115A laser toners into the bin for landfill you can collect them and when you have enough gathered you can make the trip to the local Council amenity/recycling centre. There are containers in all refuse sites that will accept used ink and toner cartridges.
  4. The popular way is to find the companies in your nearby area that take in your empty toner cartridges. There are many third party manufacturers which buy the empty toners, refill them and resell them into the market. The amazing part of this process, the third party manufacturers compensate you for providing them the empty toners for recycling. Is not it a wonderful deal? The recycled toners are fully factory tested, eco-friendly and consistently offer the best performance.
  5. The another way is that you can directly contact the toner cartridge manufacturers. Many companies have their own recycling plants, where they take back the used empty toner cartridges.
If we all start this practice today, we can surely make a difference to our own carbon footprint in upcoming future.
